I know that your edit was made in good faith, but it isn't really necessary to say that. The reason soil helps plants grow is that it contains macro and micronutrients that help the plant grow, so it's inaccurate to say the soil itself is what does so; rather, it is what is made up of. It is very possible to grow plants without soil, simply providing them with the nutrients that the soil would offer (this is known as hydroponics). Secondly, using the word "our" is a term more often used in an essay about a topic, rather than an encyclopedia entry. The main difference is the tone, and often, articles on Wikipedia get tagged as "sounding too much like an essay." I hope this helped you understand why I removed your edit. When editing a talk page, please make a new section for each issue you have or whatever you would like to say. This is done by clicking the "new section" link at the top of the page. When you have said what you like, type four tildes, or ~~~~ at the end of your entry to sign it. This helps a lot because the reader knows who has said what, so it is easier to respond to.
