Oscar Wilde's Italian ancestry

Hi John of Lancaster,

Boyle's national affiliation

Would it be fair to say Boyle was Irish-born? As I read it he lived there until the age of about ten. I think this changing things back and forth often ends in tears, so to speak, or the loss of a contributor who does useful work elsewhere. Bmcln1 (talk) 18:59, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How can someone who died in 1691, 16 years before the Acts of Union 1707 which established the Kingdom of Great Britain be British? Mo ainm~Talk 21:29, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually made a mistake as Kingdom of Ireland didn't become "British" for 110 years after the death of Boyle when it became the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801. Mo ainm~Talk 22:01, 5 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello John of Lancaster. On 9 February 2011 you left a message on a Talk page asking a User to behave in a more civil manner. See your diff

Unfortunately, that User has not taken adequate notice of your advice, and has continued to taunt others, including newbies, with uncivil comments. For example, see this recent diff.

In recent times there have been more messages on this User's Talk page, and a couple of approaches to Wikiquette Assistance, and finally Wikipedia:Requests for comment/DocKino. In this RfC, you are mentioned by name, and your message from 9 February 2011 is among those cited as evidence of other Users having tried unsuccessfully to influence this User's behaviour. John Maxwell

Following the IPs edit summary I did some searching re the documentary. Dr. Michael Foy does state 'he was a Scot, a Scots[ch?] Presbyterian...' It seems a throw-away remark, not sure how much weight can be given to it considering the text source gives his place of birth as Liverpool. FYI, the documentary can be accessed here.
