Hi again. Thanks for restoring the pronunciation at Guillain-Barré syndrome - I don't have the knowledge myself. However, the refs you give don't really back you up: they have either ghee-YAN bah-RAY, which I would assume is /ɡiːˈæn/ rather than your /ɡiːˈɑːn/, or ghee-yan bah-ray, which would be /ˈɡiːən ˈbɑreɪ/. Since a lot of people get mixed up with /æ/ vs. /ɑː/, and commonly mark the wrong syllables for stress, I'd prefer to keep a {{fact}} tag on this until we're sure. kwami (talk) 00:26, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

- Wow! You guys act fast. I didn't expect anyone to notice my change for at least a week, especially around this time of year. The pronunciation in the article looks great--even a citation. Nice work. It still doesn't match the way people pronounce it around here, but that's probably because they have no interest in French pronunciation rules. People actually pronounce it /ɡiːˈɑːn/. Oh, well. I guess they're wrong.

- Sorry, I thought maybe you'd just mistranscribed the IPA. (Some of the IPA I've seen on Wikipedia is bad to the point of being unintelligible, so forgive me for my doubts.) As for being 'wrong', that's relative. If a pronunciation is established in the medical community, then that's the pronunciation of the word, or at least a pronunciation. Of course, there could always be a movement to make it more "authentic", but unless that happens, I'd like to restore yours. Real life may not be as referenceable, but it's more valid than secondary sources like a dictionary. kwami (talk) 01:26, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Oh, I see. The pronunciation with an el (there is no stress indicated) is from the GBS support group. They may be going for authenticity, but that doesn't mean anyone follows their advice. kwami (talk) 01:39, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
