Manhua comments

Thanks so much for your time answering my questions. Words' meanings can get so changed around when we use them in English that I didn't to be accidentally insulting anyone by calling Singaporean comics "manhua," and wanted to make sure I understood how things stood organizationally. The now-common usage of the word "manga" is what's sparked all this. It's used in a very general sense by publishing companies (of multiple languages) to mean all "Asian-style" comics; in Japan it's used for all comics, regardless of origin; but Western anime & manga fans (including the Wikiproject Anime & Manga) want it used only for things of Japanese origin or even of foreign origin if they happened to be pubished in Japan first. I apologize for being remiss in thanking you for the extra info you provided the other day about product arrangement at Kinokuniya. Just gets more confusing every day, doesn't it. Hey, Jappalang, could you tell me about the reliability of these sources? They contradict several sources I hold in the highest regard (including primary sources) in several places, and I'm not sure what to make of it. I have a text file draft on my computer of the finished product using the sources you gave, but I'm not sure which parts should make their way into the actual article. Toa Payoh Murder Case

Regarding the inclusion of the trivia segment, actually news accounts tell of multiple visits, shock therapy and updated case notes said she drank his blood twice. The point is significant since it had a few headlines of its own [1]. The case is not being reported on because it is still in (extended) recess and the verdict is not out yet. I am currently creating a page for the case but its still WIP as there is a pile of info to go through. Thanks for the reply. Actually I thought it would be relevant. If I could more details about Adrian Lim's other "clients", I would have made it a whole section by itself. Unfortunately most of his "clients" were either not named nor infamouse enough (with the exception of his 2 wives and Amutha Valli), so I simply put in under the trivia section. Regarding Maryland and Virginia Rifle Regiment multi-column Notes

I need your assistance. Using the script, reflist|colwidth=40em, allows the multi-column format of my Notes section to adjust to monitors of different sizes in Mozilla Firefox, my preferred browser. However, it doesn't work in Internet Explorer, where the Notes are in one long column. Project Sylpheed Composer Edits

Ok, what is your criteria for notable composers? If it is a greater work ratio, then your listing is off. Takahiro Nishi was the game's sound director and, along with Kenichiro Fukui, composed and arranged more than half the soundtrack. Junya Nakano and Kumi Tanioka should not be included, as they did not contribute enough to be 'worthwhile' by your definition. I'm going to remove both of them and add Nishi as per the guidelines 'you' enforced. Consider doing some actual research beforehand.Raizen1984 (talk) 04:08, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Toa Payoh ritual murders

This is a new category that is being populated by ListasBot. It's pages that are on the list of Biography articles without listas parameter, but where ListasBot can't find the WPBiography tag in the page. It's basically a list of pages that need some human attention to figure out why they're on the list, but don't have the WPBiography tag. In this case, yes, it may have something to do with the fact that Adrian Lim redirects to Toa Payoh ritual murders. Thanks, Matt (talk) 02:22, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

For your amusement- not only is Atherstone the real site of the Battle of Bosworth, it's also the "real" site of the last battle between Boudicca and the Romans (Graham Webster), contains the most pubs on its High Street of any British town and has a regular 810 year old game of "football" without rules or goals in which hundreds of people take part. Battle of Bosworth Field edits

I have no objections to the story of Rhys's shuffling with the letter of his vow being deleted from the article on the Battle of Bosworth Field. I did mention it merely as an aside. I agree that most historians don't mention the story, but Winnie evidently had it from somewhere. I'll try and create an article on Rhys some time. A good source would be Griffith, Ralph A. Sir Rhys Ap Thomas and His Family:A Study in the Wars of the Roses. University of Wales Press. ISBN 0708312187.Unfortunately, I don't have this work to hand.

I don't think a total replacement is warranted by any means, but it's still worth noting the correct term. I've mentioned it in passing in the lead and will use the term sparingly further down; do you think this is enough? A footnote could be a good alternative, but obviously that would need a specific source (which I may be able to supply if I can dig through my books when I get home this evening!) Toa Payoh ritual murders

FYI, the first police officer at scene was from Toa Payoh police station, the first senior investigation officer at scene was also from Toa Payoh police station. After the arrest was made, the case was subsequently handed over to the Special Investigation Section (SIS) of CID (from its old Robinson Road HQ), which specializes in the investigations of kidnap and homicide cases. Freelancer article: Discovery mod mention

I'm the author of Discovery mod for FL, and hardly the right person to edit it back onto the Freelancer (video game), but it's kind of strange that the only sentence dedicated to Freelancer mods now lack one of the most popular ones (and, judging by multiplayer server statistics, the most popular one) which is also still in active development, unlike The Next Generation, for example.

Also, ideally, the article should get a separate section about mods, since Freelancer is currently alive only because of a number of high-quality mods and tools developed within the community. When all other moddable games not only have those sections, but also have multiple wikipedia pages dedicated to specific mods, Freelancer has none (attempts were taken earlier, but all rejected because of "lack of notability", which is far from truth). And I'm not talking only about my mod here, it's about all popular mods, of which Discovery, Crossfire and The Next Generation (mentioned on the page) are just part of. Thank you. About ModDB: Yes, I agree that the profile pages of mods cannot be considered reliable. Yet, the award that Discovery got (simulation genre'Mod of the Year-2006) was issued by editors, and the contest itself was mentioned in Wikipedia on the site's article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moddb). Plus, while I'm by no means requesting removal of other two remaining mods from the page, the reference links for them simply lead to download pages on GameSpot and GameArena, with one for Crossfire having the download disabled, and linking for more information to the mod's profile on ModDB (http://www.gamearena.com.au/downloads/details.php/freelancer-crossfire-mod-v17). Both references are description pages that duplicate the mods' descriptions that their authors provided in readme.txt files. How's the FilePlanet link for Discovery less trustworthy than that, for example?
True that a separate mods page for Freelancer is not a viable option, yet, a small section in the Freelancer article could be. As for the PC World UK article, we will try to get one (the page you linked to doesn't have the issue in question). I don't have access to any US or English gaming magazines personally (living in Russia) so I can't verify such sources personally. I'll be trying to find any sources that could work, but this will take some time. For apparent reasons, though, we cannot expect that any of the newer mods for a relatively old game get high-profile media attention.Igiss (talk) 14:24, 24 September 2009 (UTC)

FYI- Retro Gamer did a two part feature on the history of SSI in issues 42 (inception til about 87) and 43 (the rest of the history). I found issue 42 to be invaluable for their first game. I thought the same thing about Strategic Simulations, Inc. after reading the first developer look back. It would be nice to see some company articles on here be quality ones, but I barely have time to do what little I'm doing now. :-\ Computer Gaming World issue 45 and Antic volume 4 issue 3 fill in some blanks about the company and the founder, Joel Billings. RE:Palace Software games

I work on most classic games like that because I notice I have the sources to do so. Then I normally do quick edits on it because I've prepared most of the content offline in Notepad. I plan on working on Cauldron 2: The Pumpkin Strikes Back in the future as well. That just leaves The Evil Dead, The Sacred Armour of Antiriad, Stifflip & Co., and of course Palace Software.

A topic could be a possibility. I must admit though, this article was my first exposure to the company. So I don't see myself working on the rest either. :-\ Who knows though. I'd help out if time permits and I can find sources. (Guyinblack25 talk 23:36, 25 February 2010 (UTC))

My search box doesn't recognise "Lat" as an article name; it gives me a drop-down menu of articles beginning with those three letters, but not Lat itself. Gave you the highest rating I could, but I didn't cross it out on the Wiki Comics Project assessment request page, since I personally feel it deserves quite a bit higher, so the work for the assessment team on this page isn't over. In order to achieve higher, you need to request a peer review to move onto GA status. Once that's over, I can reevaluate it for A-class. Ask around on how to nominate. There are three others that are supposedly active for the Wiki Comics Project -- Luminum, Fram and Emperor -- and it's time for them to start earning their keep!

Toa Payoh ritual murders

Hello,

I translated your nice article in French (see fr:Meurtres rituels de Toa Payoh). It could become a featured article on the French Wikipedia, but two details worry some contributors. I did not read the books used as references, so I turn to you for more informations.

  1. For the sentence (in a note) "Lim's customers also include superstitious men and elderly females, both of whom he cheated only of cash." : Is there any reference available ? Is it "John (1989), 17–19" ? If Lim did not sexually abuse them, is it because they were either old or not female ?
  2. There is a story of a loan between Lim and Lau's parents. Was it really a loan, or a sum of cash given by Lim to obtain forgiveness from Lau's parents ?

Towton links

There was a general issue of overlinking between google book links and other unnecessary links, which may mean that possibly some links were removed that should not have been. My rules of thumb go roughly:

  • External links are used for verification of information (not of the existence of the book), so a link with no preview was automatically a goner.
  • When a book was linked both for the book as a whole and for the chapter, it seemed quite redundant to have both, so the chapter link only was kept.
  • I admit books that were linked only for the book as a whole were a bit of a judgement call. In the case at hand, I would probably consider having page links in the footnotes instead of a generic link that has no guarantees the pages in question can be read, especially for those books cited only once (but only, of course, if the pages in question can be read on Google Books). Me I usually put a reference used only once in a footnote, so I don't typically have to decide that.

Oops, didn't realize you already had it. I know the guy who owns Albion Armory, where Jody used to work. They were the company selling the only licesnsed reproductions from the movie, it's possible that they might have one...although I don't think the swords were actually forged. I believe they were machined (ground) from 1095. Citation style at Middlesex (novel) and File:Portrait of Hervey White by Bolton Brown.jpg

Hi Jappalang. What's the difference between Sfn and Harvn? Is the difference merely in the edit window (the former is more compact), or is there a difference in the viewing window? I believe you should have asked me prior to making such a major change to the citation style. I prefer Harvn because I know how to use it but do not strongly object to your changes.
