Hello, I like the idea of this and hope it will help incentivize people to further participate! I had one thought...sometimes, I write articles on the works of women. Is there a way to still include these? For example, I've created several articles on books authored by women. Thsmi002 (talk) 18:51, 5 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Article assessment

I like this idea, especially adding the visual of the flag icons. Adding the icons may be challenging for new editors. I would add brief instructions about them, something like:

To add your article to the list, copy this line from this page: 

#{{flagicon|COUNTRY}} [[ARTICLENAME]], created by ~~~, CLASSTYPE class, {{CURRENTDAY}} {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}}

Paste it into a new line below the last in the list, and make these changes:

  • Replace COUNTRY with either the name of the country or any of the alphabetic country codes.
  • Replace ARTICLENAME with the name of the article you started.
  • The ~~~ (three tildes) will automatically fill in your user name, so don’t change that.
  • Replace CLASSTYPE with the article type (most likely “stub”, “start”, or “C”), as explained by Wikipedia:WikiProject assessment. If you’re uncertain about the class to assign, it can be done later by more experienced editors; just write “no class” in that case.
  • The rest of the line will automatically provide the date, so don’t change any of that part.

Preview your new entry to be sure it renders correctly, then publish the page.

NotARabbit: Thanks for your suggestions. It's always good to know you are around to check things out. In last year's Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/The World Contest we did not experience much difficulty with the flags. I think most people simply look at what others have been doing. The flag templates are generally self explanatory. It might be useful to suggest anyone experiencing difficulty should simply add the name of the country involved. We could then add the flag later. If the idea of a monthly achievement scheme is accepted, we will of course need to issue clear guidelines but I think too much technical detail may turn people away. Let's first of all see how other suggestions and reactions evolve.--Ipigott (talk) 07:03, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
