Disambiguation link notification for March 7

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

You have added several unhelpful links to the List of most popular given names article. Names should not be linked to articles for historical personages. Either create a new article for the name or leave it as it is. --Bookworm857158367 (talk) 01:30, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WPUS changes

Greetings, I noticed the edit you made to the WPUS supported projects page and wanted to let you know that those projects are not supported by WPUS. I'm not going to revert the changes but I wanted to let you know someone else might and some may take offense. Aside form that, the WPUS project isn't very active. I was the one doing most of the maintenance and I stopped a few months ago. Good initiative though. Please let me know if you have any questions. Kumioko (talk) 00:20, 8 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Inges Idee

For the WikiProject Biography template, you submitted the listas parameter as "Idee, Inges". Is this accurate, given the article is named after an art collective and not the name of an individual? --Another Believer (Talk) 20:14, 14 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Category:American film actresses

Thankyou for helping expand Category:American film actresses.John Pack Lambert (talk) 04:45, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop anti-diffusing categories

People should only be in the most specific category that applies to them. Thus if they are in Category:American actresses they should not also be in the actors category. They should not be in a film actors category and the actors category. Ideally Category:American actors should only be a contained category, no articles should be in it. The same should also be true of American singers.John Pack Lambert (talk) 22:26, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request for input on runic link

Hello, as you might be aware the peace symbol or the Campaign for nuclear disarmament symbol has runic origins. Specificially that of the death rune/Algiz/Todesrune. I am currently in discussion on the talk page of the Campaign for nuclear disarmament with another member who actively refuses to accept that this information about the symbols runic origins be included.

I would appreciate your input.

Here are the references supporting the runic origin of the symbol.

Categories

Following some disagreement among people at WP:AFC/R on whether multi-intersection categories like Category:Black British actresses are helpful or not, I've raised the issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Categories#Multi-intersection categories. Since you were the one who proposed the categories you may want to explain your reasoning there. Technically you could create the categories directly without going through AFC/R at all, but since they're apparently controversial, it may be better to use this opportunity and establish whether we should have them at all. Huon (talk) 02:37, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

And as a semi-pseudo-quasi related topic, the very word "actress" has been labeled as being a sexist hangover from past ages by many and I expect that many of the current categories such as the one you recently tacked onto Charlotte Saunders Cushman will be . . . . . . . . . . ...... discussed shortly. Then likely obsolete. The "correct" term, I believe, is "female actors." Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 02:56, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What?!!!

Hi. What on earth is your justification for categorising Les Murray as a New Zealand anthropologist? I know Les well. He is Australian-born, never lived in NZ, and never studied anthropology in anything but a jocular sense. Cheers, Bjenks (talk) 03:03, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, my bad. That was a mistake that I caught right after I'd made it. I thought I'd changed it, but my internet's been a little blinky, so I guess I accidentally left it as was. Sorry about that! ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 03:06, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I did that such a long time ago that I'm no longer 100% sure that this was what I was referring to, but I'm almost certain (maybe 95% sure) that this is the one. It is her official site, after all. Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:30, 18 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Template:Marriage

Per Template talk:Marriage#Who is widowed - topic or topic's spouse?, the term "widowed" is unclear and usually refers to the date that the subject of the article died not the date that the spouse died. DrKay (talk) 13:19, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I explained my edit in the edit summary, to revert that edit without explanation or an edit summary is not just rude, it's disruptive. DrKay (talk) 17:22, 29 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize for what I did and the way I handled it. When I received your message about the widow/widowed issue with the template, I saw your point. I agree with you, it does make the information ambiguous and confusing. I knew I'd done it on a few pages before your message, and so I tried to correct it by clarifying whose death I was referring to (hence the "his/her death" clarification). I tend to be not so good at leaving edit summaries: either I forget or am a bit shy--of course, this was not the case here; I simply handled it unprofessionally. I do apologize for that. I certainly didn't mean to be disruptive. I got caught up in editing and made a bad judgment call.
On a different note, if my previous solution makes things a little complicated, then I am confused as to when the marriage template should be used. Should it be only on living people? I understand not using it for people from perhaps the Middle Ages and before, because that might be a little too confusing or unnecessary (not to mention prone to inaccuracy) when there may not be much data on the person to begin with. I tried to find an answer to this on the Marriage template page and its discussion page, but it doesn't seem to have been brought up, yet. What would you suggest? ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 18:10, 30 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox errors

Hi, Iamthecheese44. First, I loved the book from which you take your tag; it was like The X-Files for teens. Secondly, please stop adding months and days to the "spouse" field in infoboxes since the template is incapable of reading them: Though you're putting them in, they don't show up on the live page. So all you're doing is making extra work for other editors to clean up the infobox. Thank you for ceasing this. --Tenebrae (talk) 23:31, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your message and the compliment. :) The marriage template does allow for the dates to be read, as can be seen when you hover the cursor over the year. The template is just showing it in a concise manner. It's actually the default if you were to just put "{{Template:Marriage}}": the date would at first appear as "m. 2015", but if you hovered over the date it would give you the date that was imputed into the template. Ex.:
(date missing)

. This is why the dotted lines appear underneath the "m." and the given year. This is how the template page tells users to input the marriage info]. I actually only recently figured this out, so I know it's not necessarily immediately obvious if you're not looking for it. The use of the dates for this can be seen on a number of notable pages, such as those of European royal families, etc. Perhaps it's a topic for discussion on the template's talk page? I've checked and I don't see any discussion on it so far. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 05:59, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the info; I was unaware. That said, the dates were in fact not showing up on the live pages — from what you say, I'm not sure why not. I guess going forward, when you make those additions, you might want to check to see if they're showing up; otherwise it's "junk code." With regards, Tenebrae (talk) 19:43, 14 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Accidental revert

Hi - I was just trying to rollback all the edits done by Thechicogarage on Charlie Chaplin, but because your edit came first I ended up reverting it by accident (Twinkle being confusing). I wrote "not useful" in the edit summary but actually yours was a good edit. So sorry for that. I'll add it back now. --Loeba (talk) 12:44, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Peter II of Yugoslavia may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 1 "{}"s likely mistaking one for another. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

"Women are everywhere"

Hi Iamthecheese44. I'm an editor (not very active till now) of the Italian Wikipedia, where the gender gap is a real issue. I'm trying to participate to an IEG with the project "Women are everywhere". You will find the draft at this link https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Women_are_everywhere It would be great if you could have a look at it. I need any kind of suggestion or advice to improve it. Support or endorsement would be fantastic. Many thanks, --Kenzia (talk) 16:15, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Tamara Davis (astrophysicist)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Tamara Davis (astrophysicist). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Tamara Davis. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Tamara Davis – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Wgolf (talk) 20:28, 8 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Contests

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:24, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I was wondering if you would be interested in contributing articles to Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic)? It needs contributors to increase diversity of content from different countries and bring about large scale improvements. The idea at some point will be to host a National Contest related to your country of interest. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:15, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I see you are listed as a member of a WikiProject of a Baltic state. I was wondering if anybody who actively works on Estonian, Lithuanian or Latvian articles, would be interested in launching your own Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Baltic), based on the Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic) and Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea would be to try to bring about 1000 article improvements and creations on this region as an enjoyable challenge and potentially things like National Contests with prizes. If you'd be interested and think it's something you might regularly contribute to, comment and sign up at Talk:Baltic states. If there is interest we can move this to a project somewhere and set something up, thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 19:26, 26 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 09:05, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ava Acres ‎

Regarding your edits at Ava Acres: Please explain how a tweet of her saying "Thanks for the birthday wishes" is a source for what year she was born in. Her birth date (specifically the year) is quite obviously missing from internet sources and we need to be responsible in not adding it here without a reliable source. We add it here and it gets repeated all over the internet, and thus we are responsible for spreading unverifiable information. --Laser brain (talk) 11:21, 27 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help on some royal family trees

Hi there! I've noticed that you edit pages that contain genealogies, including royal lineages. I don't know how to edit those, so I'm requesting help if you are willing to edit some pages. The Danish royal family tree needs Countess Inge and Prince Richard removed (late husband of Princess Benedikte), the Spanish royal family tree has the late husband of Infanta Pilar and the Japanese Imperial House had two extinct male lines(I removed them myself but it needs a small fix).--Killuminator (talk) 16:33, 29 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I went through and fixed the stuff you listed, as well as some other things that needed tweaking. Thanks for letting me know! ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 03:59, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Also, regarding the Japanese one - I think Prince Katsura should be also removed on the same basis as the other two princes. Daughters who married commoners and lost their royal status are also questionable additions, but I will leave that at your discretion. If removed, the tree will look less cluttered. --Killuminator (talk) 13:53, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That is something to be discussed on the talk page. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 18:18, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Use of the term "House of" with noble families

Thank you for all of your thoughtful edits on various articles, and I would like to get your opinion about a matter. From time to time, there have been some editors who have changed Wikipedia article titles about noble families from "House of [name]", such as changing the article about the House of Merode to Merode family. Such editors might believe that the term "House of" only applies to royal dynasties, not to noble families. However, my impression has always been that various high-ranking European noble families of ancient lineage, such as the House of Arenberg or the House of Ligne, may properly be referred to as such, and not simply as the Ligne family. You have in-depth knowledge about all things noble and royal, and I have great respect for your opinion, so I would be grateful if you could please let me know your very brief thoughts on this issue. Many thanks for your kind help! -- Blairall (talk) 01:36, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:31, 4 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

WikiProject Wikify: Current Backlog Reduction Plan

Hey, I noticed you marked yourself as a member of WikiProject Wikify and you are currently listed as active. I was wondering if you would be able to assist with our current backlog reduction plan. While traditional drives are more structured month-long sprints by WikiProject Wikify members, there is currently lacking activity within the project and in order to significantly reduce the incredible backlog, members are encouraged to review all articles marked with the Underlinked Template Message - {{underlinked}} - a list of which can be found here - to analyze the worthiness of the template message on the given article. Articles that have nothing to link or are have had wikilinks sufficiently added should have the template removed to clear the backlog and make it easier for editors to find articles in genuine need of wikification. This can be done by any editor; however, all editors should consider joining if they haven't done so already. Thank you!

Speedy deletion nomination of Prince George and Princess Charlotte ancestry sandbox

Hello Iamthecheese44,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Prince George and Princess Charlotte ancestry sandbox for deletion, because it appears to duplicate an existing Wikipedia article, Family tree of the British royal family.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Hi, this cat should remain for every footballer from Scotland. Please re-instate on those you have removed it from when adding the Footballers from Renfrewshire. It is correct for both to be present. Thanks. Crowsus (talk) 09:35, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Stewart, 1st Marquess of Londonderry

Dear Iamthecheese44. I see you have more than 42000 edits and are thus a very, very experienced editor. I am still more or less a novice. I usually add lists of siblings and children to biographies in which I get involved. Does Wikipedia have a rule about how to style such lists? I thought it was good enough when the article is about Mr. Smith to call his children John and Peter and I do the same with the children of the Marquess of Londonderry, whose surname is Stewart. Why repeat "Stewart" each time? The reader already knows that their surname is Stewart. Furthermore, I do not think they are Lords and Ladies. His eldest son will become Lord Londonderry when he succeeds his father in the honour. The younger sons who do not succeed will normally not become Lords, they will be commoners. Am I wrong? This is important for me as I have written quite a few such lists. If they all need to be changed to include the surname and add an appropriate title, that will be a big amount of work to be done. I try to be a disciplined Wikipedian and if something is wrong according to MOS or well established usage or even common sense, I will correct it once I have understood what the rule is and why it should be as you say. I will then dutifully change them all, but first I need to be sure. Somebody else might come along and tell me to remove the surname again and to add "Honourable" before the name, etc. I hope you will understand my hesitation. With many thanks Johannes Schade (talk) 17:24, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Sons of British monarchs requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

This is already covered by Princes of the United Kingdom, we should not be further dividing people by gender

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Frances Talbot, Countess of Tyrconnell

Dear Iamthecheese44. Thank you very much for your intervention on the article "Frances Talbot, Countess of Tyrconnell". I appreciate your careful well-balanced linking, neither over nor under, the correction of the punctuation. You seem to be always right in these matters. Of course, you are the cheese, a member of the GOCE, and a very experienced Wikipedian (almost 46000 edits!). I certainly have to learn a lot from you. However: -3189 is a harsh treatment. The major item in there is the timeline table. Obviously, it repeats information that is already in the article, but so does the Infobox. The timeline is presented collapsed and therefore occupies a single line. I have added such timeline tables to about 60 biographies. I am tempted to bring it back. There might however be a very good reason (MOS?) for this deletion that I do not know about. Why had the image of the miniature have to go? I thought it was quite cute. Is there some issue with it? The Latin text in the photo is difficult to read, so I added a table with the text in it, but perhaps there should not be such lengthy Latin in the English Wikipedia. I found out you are an expert in family trees, e.g. the article "Family tree of Belgian monarchs". I am astonished you did not touch mine. Most editors seem to ignore the family trees that I have added on about 80 biographies. Perhaps it should have been presented collapsed. Besides, I have been kindly reproached, some time ago, by user User:Martin of Sheffield for using dual dates. MOS:OSNS states that dates "should be assumed to have begun 1st of January". I thought I had fixed them all, but I see that there are some left in "Frances Talbot, Countess of Tyrconnell", e.g. in the Infobox, which gives her birth date as "9 March 1730/1", which, according to MOS, should be simply "9 March 1731". My fault. I will fix this. There are still a couple of other minor issues that I would like to discuss with You, but I fear I have already taken too much of your precious time. Please accept, Iamthecheese44, the expression of my highest consideration, Johannes Schade (talk) 08:25, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request for help

Hello, back in 2017 I requested some help with a family tree section on a page for a royal family. We have the same issue now on the page Norwegian royal family. The king's brother-in-law died and several editors tried to paint his box red but couldn't do it properly. We ended up making it look like the king and queen and the king's surviving sister are all dead. Can you help out with that? It would be very appreciated. --Killuminator (talk) 23:23, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Duty Clarity before all

Hello & thank you for all the good work you do! This, however, was clearer & more informative before, for the average reader of an encyclopedia. I was going to revert it but saw a bunch of other little fixings & thangs which I don't know what they mean and I was afraid to damage that part. Why not spell their names out? Or will you be around to fix what you did when they die?--SergeWoodzing (talk) 13:56, 3 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Use of deprecated/unreliable refs

Hi, in going through nobility articles removing poor sourcing, I noticed you had added refs to findagrave and thepeerage.com pretty recently (mid-2020). These are unreliable sources, with the latter deprecated. You also added a citation to History of Royal Women to the above article, which is a blog and therefore unacceptable unless the author is an expert (which they are definitely not). I don't know if you've continued using these sources but I thought I should bring this to your attention if you weren't already aware. Thanks, JoelleJay (talk) 20:51, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I understand the concern, and I do not make a habit of doing it, but the content in question was literally stated at the very beginning of the article. The information I changed wasn't new to the page, and what was there previously had been in direct contradiction to what had been written earlier. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 00:57, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
