Hill River

I'm not too sure what you mean by inlining a thumbnail, usually the image is boxed out of text as a thumbnail or as a larger image (although I don't claim to be an expert on images). As for the copyright, accorrding to the website, you hold the copyright so the choices you have are

a) link to the webpage with no thumbnail

b) upload the image to wikimedia (there are several choices as to whether you release the copyright or hold limited copyright when you upload), I'm not sure if you an upload the thumbnail with a link to the website so that the user is directed there when they click on it.Hughesdarren (talk) 00:47, 30 November 2012 (UTC)

I'm starting to have doubts about the copyright... so perhaps better to keep it where it is for now rather than embroil Wikipedia... But what I was trying to do was to have the thumbnail displayed on the Wikipedia page without it being hosted there. I didn't see any way to do that in the Wikipedia image tutorial. The numbers I had been quoted for the size is roughly 604,000 acres or 240,000 hectares. I've found fairly precise long/lat for a number of points on the map including property corners, wells and road property boundary crossings. Richard Guy Briggs (talk) 15:45, 29 November 2012 (UTC)

I had averaged all of the varous sizes quoted in the references which seem to vary from year to year, or were vague such as approximately 500,000acres , is 240,000ha the current size? I was so incredibly annoyed when I saw the nom - clearly all the hours spent on establishing railway stations and small one horse localities and we get this sort of B-S. Pastoral leases/stations are in particular a very important way of understanding the complexities of western australian history, politics and ecology - any further noms and I will be very very determined to establish somewhere that all stations are inherently notable.

bins project

gday - keep up the good work! hope your easter is a safe one. I have decided that every grain bin in the state needs its glory on wp.

If you might have some suggestions or anything, the main article I have tried to start (1 so far out of 12 rather crowded zones to get in) is the CBH grain receival locations article. It sort of follows on from wheatbelt railway lines of western australia, and if I live long enough (sic) the bins and railway locations will all get tied in eventually...

I never did but had friends who did 'bins' jobs to get themselves through uni in the old days... sats 04:46, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

The main industry in town is wheat farming ...

You appear to have added the sentence "The main industry in town is wheat farming with the town being a Cooperative Bulk Handling receival site." (citing CBH Receival Sites - Contact Details) to several WA town articles recently. The reference clearly supports the second half of the sentence, but doesn't necessarily support the first half. In particular, you've added it to Bullfinch, Western Australia, which already says "The town is based around the gold mining industry ..." - clearly both sentences can't be correct.

A less extreme case is Brookton, Western Australia#Present day where the first paragraph describes "a rich mixed farming district" and a town that contains " a TAFE centre, ... a district high school ..., Bendigo Bank, shopping facilities, accommodation (hotel, motel, caravan park), council offices and a telecentre" - then you've added "The main industry in town is wheat farming ..." It just doesn't read correctly - the surrounding district may have wheat (and other) farming but it does not appear to be the main industry of the town. (Actually that probably applies to most towns - the farming does not happen in town.)

Also, the sentence has been added in to sections of the article that are not necessarily appropriate. Eg, Boyup Brook, Western Australia#Name of the town, Cunderdin, Western Australia#History

Could you please check these recent edits and ensure that:

• The sentence is in the correct section of the article, if appropriate
• The claim that the "main industry in town is wheat farming" is correct and/or consistent with the rest of the article

I suspect that in some cases it might be appropriate to reword "main industry in town" (eg Brookton) simply because farming does not occur in the town itself.

Also - to add to the issue (its a really hard act to follow....), due to the rate at which CBH and other operations now specifically refer to grain rather than wheat as the extent to which CBH has to manage the grain receival storages for grain separation is a bit of a problem in saying just wheat. I am also in the process of trying to change any wheat specific categories that I have made as the grain term usage is faily universal, as well as in the canadian articles and categories - which seems to be the best parallel universe to check against compared to other more culturally bound grain operations terminology found in the damned infernal internet, um pedial wiki... sheesh and as if the sun wasnt hot today (easter as rain free? what a weird experience, the world is damned changing...) sats 03:26, 1 April 2013 (UTC)

The sentence in question refers to "a Cooperative Bulk Handling receival site", but given that:

• Cooperative Bulk Handling is a redirect to CBH Group
• We have an article CBH grain receival points

sheesh what a mine field. Ok when I tried to do some myself, I was (a) not referring to the current CBH online pdf. I hate anything to do with referring to PDF's. Personal gripe. Strong. Swearwords and wasted bandwidth.

how I hate online pdfs - this is the main reference to current operations that I have utilised, if Mitch is able to 'fix' this as a main ref for the receival points and structures articles, and comes to the meetup next saturday I will gladly shout a round or two of chosen liquid... (apart from saffron and bacardi...)

To clarify just in case it seems contradictory (ok ok crazy) - I would rather have a pdf ref (like the map) inside a referred-to-article, and not at each references to the cbh bins, that is why the two articles and catgeory have been created...

I appear to have misunderstood what it is that you wanted. I've deleted the entries that Mitch found objectionable, should I now: a) Delete the text and ref from the rest can leave the cat b) Delete the lot c) Change the wording in the text to remove the words main and wheat Hughesdarren (talk) 04:07, 1 April 2013 (UTC) (c) - in part - and a serve up of further talk page pollution... PLEASE do not delete anything - it is just a case of modifying things. Just modify things. My suggestion from my rantings above is that the pdf is located in the main article that is being linked to, and there is no need to add a ref to the edited subsidiary articles. The project itself is something we need to do (like identify all the bins) and if there are some variations in entries in some of the articles - it is probably worth looking at some of the articles for other reasons for editing anyways. Dont get hungup on wheat versus grain - no big deal, just that some parts of the belt are now so multi grained multicultural its like a grain circus... I am looking forward most to the 'abandoned' or closed bins, my 1940s and 1970s cbh and railway reports show at least 150+ if not more discontinued bin locations.
