Thanks much––this is helpful. I looked at Helgeson's biography, and he occupies the highest position at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, satisfying WP; NACADEMIC #6. The position of 'Dekan' in Germany is equivalent to Chancellor in other countries (see specific criteria notes for NACADEMIC #6)––a 'Chancellor' in Germany is a chief of operations, not an academic post. The Academy is also one of Germany's most important music conservatories, with faculty including Andras Schiff, Daniel Barenboim, Michael Barenboim, etc., so I would argue the person satisfies the criteria. But I am happy to work a little on the entry, to improve it, as I notice Helgeson also satisfies WP:NACADEMIC #1 (a lot of scholarship, incl. three books), #3 (Member of the French Society of 16th-century studies) and #5 (W2 Professorship in the German system, a tenured post named by the government, of which there are few in Germany). Okay, no problem. I'm not against this draft being published, or trying to argue that the subject definitely isn't notable, only that at the moment the case is borderline (I'm not sure if the Akademie can be described as "major"... although, again, not categorically saying it's not, either). If you can work on it further, to demonstrate NACADEMIC (or another kind of) notability more conclusively, that would be great. Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:38, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! I know about the Akademie as it's often in the news, as the best known music conservatory in Germany. But I agree it makes sense to work on the page some more so the question of notability is even clearer. My thanks! I will reply again once I'm done. I have made edits to make notability of the subject clearer. For WP: NACADEMIC #6, I would argue the Barenboim-Said Akademie is one of Germany's most major music conservatories, given its faculty (Andras Schiff, Daniel Barenboim, etc.), and large public investment. The person holds the highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at this institution, and so should qualify for notability in this case. For WP:NACADEMIC #1: Helgeson's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, with three books published with academic peer-reviewed presses and now added to the bibliography. For WP:NACADEMIC #3: The person has been an elected member to France's leading scholarly society for Renaissance studies, this membership is indicated and referenced now in the entry. For WP:NACADEMIC #5: The person holds a distinguished professor appointment, and this is also now included (note that there are no 'named chairs' in Germany). My thanks for your advice to make this article better. HistorikerBerlin7 (talk) 12:29, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
