File source and copyright licensing problem with File:StarlightWondersImage.jpeg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:StarlightWondersImage.jpeg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next seven days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 23:18, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hoax sandbox pages

Please explain why I should not delete all of your sandbox pages. It looks like there might be some useful pages mixed in there, but I'm not terribly interested in doing research on all of those pages to see what's good and what's not, so it would be better for everybody if you just listed which subpages should be deleted per NOTWEBHOST. Acroterion (talk) 01:51, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Because I am just having fun and keeping them to myself. I am NOT trying to publish these pages to the public. I cannot stress this enough, I am only creating fake pages in my own sandbox for FUN.
Also, don't you have something better to do with your powers than this?? Come on now! — Preceding unsigned comment added by User:GoBlackhawksGo (talkcontribs)

Userspace isn't for that purpose, and we don't allow editors to create walled gardens of fake content for their own amusement. Please list the pages that are hoaxes. Acroterion (talk) 02:37, 13 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • "Please list the pages …" - too late, I have zapped them all. But if you list any that were not fantasy, I will restore. "You people are really irritating me" - your comment at User talk:GoBlackhawksGo/sandbox6. Yes, and we will go on irritating you if you continue in this way here.

Advice regarding your fantasy sandbox pages

I have read the things you have written on several pages regarding the pages you have created. I can understand how frustrating you must have found the deletion of pages that you have put a lot of time into, and I thought it might possibly help if I give you a few words of information and advice, so that you can perhaps see that what has happened is not as arbitrary as it may have looked.

Firstly, you have said "I am not vandalizing Wikipedia". I am totally sure that is true: what you did was not vandalism at all. Many people, like you, come along to Wikipedia and make pages in their user space for their own amusement, or to share with their friends, with no intention of contributing them to the encyclopaedia. The vast majority of those people intend no harm, and honestly believe that what they are doing is perfectly acceptable, and it comes as a surprise to them when they find their pages are deleted. Very often in this kind of situation people who have been using the Wikikpedia servers to host pages for their personal use say things to the effect of "What harm does it do?" There are two answers to that.

  • There are hundreds of web sites which allow people to come post writing about almost anything they like. There are even sites, such as wikia, which allow people to create whole wikis of their own. If we were to start allowing anyone to post anything they liked, Wikipedia would no longer be any different from any of the other sites which already do that, and it would cease to be taken seriously as a reference work; that would mean that few people would think it worth their while putting in work to make serious contributions, and it would deteriorate into just another site full of play stuff. "Yes, but what I did was just in a sandbox" does not answer that, because it isn't that simple: there are people who use their sandboxes for totally unacceptable material, such as libel; there are people who write fantasy pages in sandboxes and then, when nobody is watching, move them out as articles; there are people who start off playing around in sandboxes, and get the idea that playing around is what Wikipedia is about, and their playing around then spreads to other parts of Wikipedia, and so on and so on... There is a "where do you draw the line?" problem, and if we were to allow playing around of some kinds but not others we would have to put time and work into checking what went over the borderline of acceptability and what didn't, and we would have irate people saying "But what harm does it do? It wasn't much different from what So-and-so did in his sandbox, and you let him do it". We have to draw the line somewhere, and where we draw it is that posting stuff which is not intended to be a contribution to the encyclopaedia is not acceptable.
  • The second reason is much simpler. It costs money to run Wikipedia: a very large amount of money. That money comes from donations. If we allowed people to use Wikipedia as a free web host to post pages for their own use, it would cost more money. We would therefore need more donations. Many people would be less willing to give money if they thought a lot of it was just being spent on a free web space for people to play around in. (After all, why should they?) We would need more money, but it would be more difficult to get money. Also, is it fair to take money from people who think they are contributing to the cost of building an encyclopaedia, and then use it for a free place for people to play around?

Reading that may or may not have persuaded you that disallowing fantasy pages in user space is actually reasonable, but even if it hasn't, please remember that the people you are dealing with are volunteers who are doing what they believe is best for the encyclopaedia, and try to be civil to them, even if you disagree with them. Telling people you disagree with that what they are doing is "crap", and angrily telling them that what they are doing is not useful is not likely to encourage them to see your point of view. I hope that at least some of what I have said may help you better to understand the reasons for what has happened. You are, of course, very welcome indeed to continue to contribute to the encyclopaedia, but if you wish to write pages about fantasy teams then Wikipedia is not the right place for them, and you should do that somewhere else. Editing and removing other editors' talk page posts

Your recent editing has included removing another editor's post from a talk page without explanation, and changing another editor's talk page post so as to make it appear that the editor had made a different comment than in fact he had. Please don't do either of those again. JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 17:04, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I did this, because I am NOT a sock puppet of that user. I most definitely understand why you guys might think that though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GoBlackhawksGo (talkcontribs) 18:46, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I realised that was why you did it, but if you think someone has said something which is mistaken, it's better to just post an answer saying so. Changing or removing what the other editor said is not a good idea, for several reasons, including the fact that it may give other editors the impression that you are trying to hide something. (To be absolutely clear, I am not suggesting that you were trying to hide anything, I am just saying there's a danger that some people might see it that way.) As for your saying that you "understand why you guys might think that", as far as I know only one person has expressed that opinion. As far as I'm concerned, I think that other account is most probably not you, though I too can see why someone might think it is. JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 22:09, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I do want to say I am sorry if I am acting harsh. It's just that all these people came out of nowhere and started bombarding me with all of these things. For months, nobody had any problems with my sandboxes. I think that is what irritated me the most. I was truly never going to submit those sandboxes to be made real pages. I had always thought that sandboxes were for messing around, but if I was wrong, what is the point of sandboxes? User:GoBlackhawksGo 22:03, 14 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, I do understand how it must have seemed to you, when "all these people came out of nowhere and started bombarding [you]", and I totally understand why you reacted angrily. As you say, for months you had been doing things which you had no reason to suppose anyone would object to, and it must have been quite a shock when all of a sudden you were treated like that. One thing that I personally never do is post a whole string of messages about deletion of a number of pages, like the messages that have been posted above. That really is "bombarding" you with stuff, and it must seem pretty threatening. In my opinion, it is much more helpful to just give one message, and if it seems necessary then add a short note saying that the same applies to other pages too. As for sandboxes, they are for testing, practising, and preparing work for the encyclopaedia. Some kinds of test edits and practice edits, particularly from a new editor, may look not much different from playing around, but that is not the same as creating pages for personal use, which are never intended to be preparation for work for the encyclopaedia.
Most of your editing has been in your sandboxes, and it must be disappointing to lose it all. However, unlike some editors, who are only here to play around, you have made a significant number of other edits, mainly to articles, but also quite a few to templates. I really hope you will carry on making useful contributions to the encyclopaedia, and not be completely put off by this negative experience. JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 21:57, 15 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have to say this to you. You are by far one of the better editors I have come across. I absolutely respect your comments as apposed to other editors. I don't want to be mean at all. I really am here to help and the edits I make on real pages aren't vandalism. I am just glad they didn't take away my editing privileges. I will stop making those sandboxes because they are appearing to be problematic. User:GoBlackhawksGo 17:34, December 15 2019 (UTC)

  • Hi again. I just came back to see how you are getting on. I'm glad to see that there don't seem to have been any more problems since that unfortunate experience a few weeks ago. I hope it stays that way. JBW (talk) Formerly JamesBWatson 09:51, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adam Berry (Investigator) moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Adam Berry (Investigator), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. ... discospinster talk 05:11, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, GoBlackhawksGo. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Adam Berry".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! UnitedStatesian (talk) 02:26, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:G Turner.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F10 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file that is not an image, sound file or video clip (e.g. a Microsoft Word document or PDF file) that has no encyclopedic use.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. File copyright problem with File:G Turner.jpeg

Thank you for uploading File:G Turner.jpeg. However, it is currently missing information on its copyright and licensing status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can verify that it has an acceptable license status and a verifiable source. Please add this information by editing the image description page. You may refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.

A tag has been placed on File:P ferguson.jpeg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of https://www.instagram.com/p/B6dNYZ1grqK/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Non-free rationale for File:Faith Tones.jpeg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Faith Tones.jpeg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 00:27, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Faith Tones.jpeg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Faith Tones.jpeg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:37, 26 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia and copyright

Control copyright icon Hello GoBlackhawksGo! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 04:17, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:DShelton.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the file appears to be a blatant copyright infringement of https://www.bucsdugout.com/platform/amp/2021/6/21/22463471/pittsburgh-pirates-cleveland-indians-mlb-baseball-series-recap-talk-the-plank-podcast.

The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Sam Menzin moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Sam Menzin, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
