Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Information icon Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:03, 1 January 2022 (UTC)

Question about spaces on edit screen

Just curious: why do you prefer the spaces before the pipes to separate parameters in a template, rather than after the pipes? Is there a technical reason? -- Ssilvers (talk) 19:15, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

I'm not so much preferring before or after the pipe, but that's how every example in Cite web and Cite news, and probably other templates, is formatted, thus setting the standard. So many refs don't have any spaces in the formatting at all. When they are formatted all jammed together with no spaces. Looking at a page in WPCleaner, it's so much easier to view the code when references aren't just one long line. --Geniac (talk) 04:48, 3 January 2022 (UTC)
OK, thanks. -- Ssilvers (talk) 05:10, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Please don't post the cartoon of Prophetﷺ..

Mr. Invidual, I request you to not undo my edits as you have done previously. It is not correct to keep the images depicting and mocking Prophetﷺ. Not only is it against his concent and generally prohibited but it is also in an insulting manner.

Please don't post the cartoon of Prophetﷺ - Part 2

Please leave like that, citizen. We all know, with full understanding, that 'insulting respected individuals' is wrong. Completely wrong. Please, be mannered. Please remove those cartoons fast. Please understand the situation.

You also have loved ones. Imagine when they are being insulted in cartoons like those. You know how it feels. That's how the pious believers feel when they learn about these. Please have some mercy. Please remove.

Thank you for doing mass removal of the source (no sarcasm intended). But while doing so, please leave behind {{cn}} every time. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:15, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

how can Movie Fit be an unreliable source on Intent to Kill, and what makes it not appropriate?

What makes the Movie Fit an inappropriate referencing on the article? Was there bad information? Can somebody please clarify? Angela Kate Maureen Pears 13:46, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

On their Privacy Policy page, moviefit.me states they get their information from themoviedb.org, which is user-generated content, and Wikipedia, which is a circular reference. Also, their site has no information on who runs the site, their staff editorial structure or their fact-checking procedures. I emailed them on February 28 to ask those things and I haven't received a reply yet. --Geniac (talk) 18:38, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
@Tropical Storm Angela: Update: After not receiving a reply to my email after a week, I messaged them on Facebook to ask the same question. They blocked me. That doesn't fill me with a sense of confidence regarding their legitimacy. --Geniac (talk) 15:27, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Need help on user page

Hey, Can you help me with my user page ? Actually I want to create a user page for me and I don't know how to create one and what all information should be added to it. Jyothis 101 (talk) 11:43, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

To create your user page, just go to it (User:Jyothis 101) and start typing then Publish Page. User pages typically contain a little information on yourself, then information on your work on Wikipedia. Such as the types of pages you like to edit, any WikiProjects you're a member of, links to any draft articles you're working on. That kind of thing. --Geniac (talk) 18:36, 16 April 2022 (UTC)
Thank you Jyothis 101 (talk) 02:58, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

Verifiability: "published"

Umm, hi Geniac, I have removed your addition of material based on an unpublished source from Raai Laxmi, as a central point of the verifiability policy is prohibiting such additions. With a raised eyebrow, ~ ToBeFree (talk) 23:26, 24 May 2022 (UTC)

ToBeFree, It appears that you are correct; from reading archived noticeboard discussions, consensus is that OTRS tickets are not "published" by our definition. Therefore, lacking any differing community discussion and consensus on the topic, I will cease attributing information to them. --Geniac (talk) 03:42, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

It looks like @JJMC89: has taken care of it by changing that block to anon only. Did that solve the problem? --Geniac (talk) 04:07, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello my friend. I hope you are fine. I reverted an edit you made because I disagree that the source is unreliable. Upon what evidence did you make the determination? Blocking these IPs

Hey Geniac, I noticed you blocked these IPs (2401:4900:1735:1FD7:1:1:F42F:C851, 2401:4900:369A:6E10:7050:1E0C:ECBD:25A7, and 2401:4900:1CE1:AEB9:C165:EA91:76A7:AD96) today.

While the reasons for the blocks were justified, they had not been notified on their talk pages prior to getting blocked. Wikipedia:Blocking policy mandates that they be notified at least once, which had not been done (as much as I can tell) for any of these. Also, the first two IPs only made one edit each, so they might have been unaware of policy.

Just a friendly notice, Augusthorsesdroppings10 (talk) 23:30, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

@Augusthorsesdroppings10: I didn't notify those 3 IPs because I didn't block those 3 specific IPs. I blocked the entire 2401:4900 range. See Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#Partial block isn't nearly enough. Notifying every IP that falls within a blocked range would be burdensome, to say the least. About my IP Banning

Hey there, I'm shocked to the news of my IP ban revealation just now as i have practiced my right to contribution of content as everyone has to, to make this community a better place. now i have been banned under "Disruptive editing" and according to your definition, i haven't performed any damaging activity. If you think so that i have done something wrong, kindly share detailed information. and I would like to get a warning to fix something that i haven't performed intentionally before imposing of a six month ban as a punishment, that is so unfair. kindly respond. I would love to hear back from you.! Thank you. Ramank.ln (talk) 10:12, 30 November 2022 (UTC)

About my IP Banning

I see that you have blocked my editing Wikipedia via my IP address. You have cited Disruptive Editing as the reason. May I see where I have been disruptive, if you don't mind? Evidently, there would be more than one case of such editing, since a single incident--which could well be rectified-- would not give you the authority to dump me. I also notice that Ramank.ln has the same complaint. My wife and I have fought a winning Cancer battle for 20 months. Incidentally, I have been with Wikipedia for nigh on 14 years. After leaving the Indian Air Force, I became a professional editor down Magazine Lane and retired at 70. Moitraanak (talk) 13:59, 6 December 2022 (UTC)

Or you could just stop blocking so much in the first place. 23.84.128.179 (talk) 15:53, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
