Welcome!

Hello, Furkaocean, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on discussion pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Please check the destination of links you are adding to various pages and avoid linking to disambiguation pages. Thanks, Vsmith (talk) 13:55, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I had to revert a number of edits you made because they were edits that refered to disambiguation pages, were inappropriate for a particular use of a phrase, or did not add meaning or context to an article. Please do not add links without following them (hit Show preview and open any links in a new tab to check) and ensuring that the linked article is both appropriate - it actually defines the term as used in the linking article - and is necessary and elucidating - it adds context, background, or precision to the linking article. If you have any questions, please ask on my talk page. VIWS talk 14:36, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Quigley (talk) 17:47, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I forgot to put notice on here. VIWS talk 17:50, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Coming here from the AN/I thread, I appreciate your enthusiasm to help out and want to welcome you to Wikipedia. However, I have to side with Vanisaac here. It is not necessary to link every single term in an article to a Wikipedia article or other type of location (i.e. I will not link every single occurrence of the word "the" to a Wiktionary article on the word "the"). Sometimes this is useful to the article, but examples such as this trio to Alphabet add no productive value to the article and are better off not being made. Don't get me wrong; I appr eciate that you want to help out. I just think you're a bit too eager. =) CycloneGU (talk) 17:54, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I want to unambiguously second the sentiment of Cyclone there, as well. I think you are eager, intelligent, and motivated - exactly what we want from every new editor. I just think you're a bit too bombastic in some of your editing. VIWS talk 18:01, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As other editors have mentioned, I don't want to discourage you, but linking to disambiguation pages as you did at Alphabet doesn't help headers in any particular way. Acroterion (talk) 18:03, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Furkaocean! Please respond so we know you've heard us. You can sign your edit with ~~~~, so we know it's you. And I need to remember to do the same. Oops: VIWS talk 18:14, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Meh. Happens to me all the time. =) CycloneGU (talk) 18:15, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

my last user:Furkhaocean is password-unavailable and the stress of this morning caused some confusion for me and also having the connection to furkha- caused me to change the pattern of my activity there are also too many distractions in my environment as I live with people who are disadvantaged in some way, and I haven't been eating much actually lately as have been kind of fixated on making some change to the world (as have previously associated with monks for a while and feel some responsiblity toward these persons)Furkaocean (talk) 18:42, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ummm, ok. Do you understand what we've been saying, above? I've literally been checking your contributions log and reverting about 70% of them, so I would like to get some confirmation that, especially given that you are not a newbie, you do understand the difference between productive and unproductive links. I really don't want to have to follow you around Wikipedia, so can I get a bit of assurance that you'll be taking some more care with your edits? VIWS talk 18:59, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

no, wasn't having looked into the relevant page for productive-unproductive,editing the article by finding passage focus-words have noticed making a few double-link errors (one or two, will proceed to go through the links after this response), a matter of fact - techne a specialist word of non-ordinary usage think it better linked, not all reader's would be familiar with it. Furkaocean (talk) 19:09, 20 July 2011 (UTC) that's unfortunate really sorry tobe a nuisance Furkaocean (talk) 19:14, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's just it. Techne was defined, right there, in the article. You don't need a link when a term is defined by the sentence it's occurring in. VIWS talk 19:16, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, the entire point of the sentence is exploring the interpretation of the word τεχνη/ars. VIWS talk

-which is often translated as craftsmanship, craft, or art- -For the ancient Greeks, it signified all the Mechanical Arts including medicine and music. will have to discontinue talk until tommorow morning (possibly),will look through advice pages as advised, as for today the computer being used here is being made unavailabe for my useFurkaocean (talk) 19:50, 20 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not here to argue about every individual revert I undertook. I can imagine a completely valid reason for just about any individual edit you made (except, perhaps "an alphabet is a set of characters..."), but the body of those edits constituted a significant and pervasive disruption of the link structure. If you were to go through the reverts I made and just try to be informed by the pattern, I really have nothing to add. If you find some that don't seem to fit the pattern, but were reverted along with ones that do, then by all means, put that link back in - I'm sure a couple got caught in my mania of damage control. I really just want to inform your editing so I can feel confident to leave all your contributions alone. I only came across them accidentally because a couple of your edits concerned WikiProject Writing Systems, and I watchlist and review all edits to that project's pages. In the end, if you can bring forward the lessons of the feedback from me and the others above, then I am happy with the outcome of this kerfuffle. My best, VIWS talk

PS, I'm going to unwatch your talk page, so if you have any questions or wish to discuss with me further, please do so at my talk page.VIWS talk
