Broadcast sections

Hello, I noticed you changed the broadcast section of the Lost Girl article from prose to table form. According to the guidelines at the Wikipedia TV project the prose version is the preferred form. You can read about it specifically here. Thanks. SQGibbon (talk) 12:05, 27 May 2013 (UTC)

On Wikipedia we're always thrilled when people edit articles in good faith. After a while you'll start to notice that there are all sorts of policies and guidelines that cover many, many aspects of editing Wikipedia. So many, in fact, that I doubt anyone could ever know them all. With that, the guidelines I linked to are pretty clear and easy, we should only list English-language broadcasts and do it in prose (not table) form. The section at The Listener does not conform to the guidelines and the table should be removed.

There are always lots and lots of articles that are not in line with Wikipedia policies and guidelines. One can make a Wikipedia "career" of just addressing one style issue in one project. My main "job" on Wikipedia is to revert vandalism but I do keep an eye out for a few other things like these "Broadcast" sections in TV show articles and fix them whenever I come across them and have the energy to do so. If your interest is in TV articles then one really thankless but important thing you could do is to learn the style guide for TV shows really well and go around fixing those articles. It's not always that fun and it is a bit tedious but it does make Wikipedia a better encyclopedia.

Also, as an aside, one of the reasons to avoid tables like that is they tend to grow very large and overwhelm articles. It really does not help a reader gain a general understanding of a TV show to know that a TV show airs on X network in Lichtenstein. Wikipedia is a general encyclopedia here to help people understand various subjects better, it is not a TV guide or collection of trivia. SQGibbon (talk) 15:09, 28 May 2013 (UTC)

English language broadcasts

What I interpret the guide being most concerned with is the language of the broadcast itself. So yes, English is an officially accepted language in India but are episodes broadcast in English or Hindi? If Hindi then it shouldn't be listed. But sometimes it's impossible to know this for sure. You can look at the network broadcasting the show and many times this will give you the answer (some networks specialize in English-language broadcasts in countries where another language is more commonly spoken). Personally I err on the side of being conservative. We know that the UK and Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand all broadcast in English and frankly those are the most important countries with respect to the English Wikipedia. You can leave everything else out after that. If you want to dig deeper and find conclusive evidence (like a network that only broadcasts in English or a reliable source indicates that a particular show is being broadcast in English) then you can include it but unless that information is readily available it's probably not worth digging that deeply into it. And again, given that Wikipedia is not a TV guide, including the fact that Tonga happens to broadcast Lost Girl at 3 in the morning in English from a small station near an American naval base is really not all that useful for the reader to gain a general understanding of the show. House Of Cards Broadcast Section

At the moment the Broadcast section reads like a Foxtel Product placement, indeed that is what it is. I have inserted an alternative availability through Apple. Also, the statement concerning GO on-demand is incorrect. I have it and unless you subscribe to 'showcase' it is not available. Hello Forbesy777, okay that is fair enough, and thanks for the considered response. I will supply you a reference. The reason I added the alternative availability, is that it was the only way that someone in Australia (as far as I could determine) could access the series, was through Apple and iTunes. Blue Bloods Broadcast Section

Sectioning into continental regions helps for quick referencing especially when there are a lot of European broadcasters added. For Blue Bloods we can forgo the sectioning until the list grows. As for the flags, I just picked up the idea from other articles that used them in their tables. As for prose over tables, I'm glad you agree prose is better, however it was rejected on the White Collar (TV series) article by User:Drmargi. Disney XD Australia

I have to apologize for my edit; it seems like it was part of the crossfire that's developed in foreign children's channels articles where there has been an issue with a complicated sock ring which has been intent on redirecting all of them to the main American network articles without any consideration to local issues and quirks with each network. The same IP had removed content yesterday on an article without discussion, so I was rolling back their edits per policy that blocked editors should have their future edits reverted. TV Tonight referencing

Hey there, I noticed you (much like myself) frequency reference TV Tonight as a source on Australian television related articles. You might like to know (if you're not already aware) that there exists a TV Tonight reference template you can use for citing sources instead of using {{cite web}} and having to write in first=David, last=Knox, etc. all the time.

You can use {{TV Tonight|url=XX|title=XX|date=XX|accessdate=XX}} and the first, last and publisher parameters are automatically filled in as David, Knox and TV Tonight respectively. It can be a time saver! Hope that helps. Whats new? (talk) 07:07, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

I am delighted that the article I'm a Celebrity - Get me out of here - ratings has been proposed for deletion. I never did like having the listing of the ratings on Wikipedia, and did not contribute to the information about them - I merely created a special page for the ratings to get the information off the main article because it was taking up room and was, I thought, unnecessary - so thank you for the proposal of deletion for the article.
