Image permissions

Hello, this is in regards to image File:Dudley Hewitt Cup.png. The contributor of the file has notified me his latest e-mail to the OTRS and that it specifically states the image in question and that it is released to public domain. I was wondering if there is or will be a status update in its case soon. Thank you. DMighton (talk) 01:53, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

@DMighton:, Image permissions should be sent using the form at WP:CONSENT. Best, ///EuroCarGT 01:55, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for the response... but he already sent it... it says:

To whom it may concern

I am giving you permission to use the OHA Dudley Hewitt Cup Photo, along with all other OHA Trophy Photos that are currently on Wikipedia. The OHA is releasing any and all images to public domain.

Should you have any questions or concerns please contact me.

Regards,

Stephen Boscariol OHA Development Coordinator 519-622-2402 Ext. 7 sboscariol@ohahockey.org

That is pretty explicit about his intentions. I hope this is good enough. DMighton (talk) 02:04, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

@DMighton: The permission should be in the form as stated at Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries, this is to ensure the author agrees with the works being published using that license. This form also has acknowledgements and other info that the author needs to be aware of. Best, ///EuroCarGT 02:09, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi again, I was given the impression that Mr. Boscariol has sent his form letter to OTRS this week. I was wondering if I could confirm that with you? DMighton (talk) 03:02, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
@DMighton: I did not receive a response from him, however I look in to queue to see if he added a new ticket. Best, ///EuroCarGT 03:05, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

Halloween cheer!

I bet you know the answer to this question…

I am trying to put my finger on some information concerning the national parks in the United States. I noticed on your talk page that you participate in the United States national Park project goals. Here's what I need to know: I need to know the total acreage of national parks in the United States. I need to reference the regulations that prevent anyone that visits the parks is prevented from removing, harassing, trapping, or any other activity which impacts any plant or animal located in the park. Thank you very much and best regards

  Bfpage |leave a message  11:56, 27 October 2014 (UTC)
@Bfpage: Hello! It should be possible to research the total area size of US National Parks. Also for park regulations enforcing illegal conducts in parks is too, quite easy to find, for example, some Trillium flowers are illegal to be removed in some areas in Michigan, New York, Minnesota and Ontario. Also within this week, I should pop in the National parks article to help assist in community collaboration. Best, ///EuroCarGT 20:42, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Mentoring for the Co-op?

Hey EuroCarGT, this is Jethro, a fellow host at the Teahouse. With a small team, I'm piloting a new mentorship space on Wikipedia called The Co-op. I wanted to ask if you might be interested in mentoring 1 or 2 editors during our pilot in December. The idea is that mentors will be doing one-on-one teaching based on what an editor wants to do or accomplish, and it's not some huge commitment to teach comprehensively about Wikipedia. Your skills in new page patrolling, and experience with deletion processes, and reputation at the Teahouse would all be very valuable for us. If you're interested, please sign up here and we'll keep you posted when we have an actual interface to work with. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have, of course, so let me know if there's anything about the space you'd like to know more about. Much like the Teahouse, the only way we'll know if our project is useful is if we can get folks to help teach. I, JethroBT drop me a line 22:04, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

@I JethroBT: I'll be interested in joining, however with the scheduled date of December 2014 - end of January 2015, I may not be active around mid-January till late January 2015 due to exams. Is it required to be fully active within the pilot project dates? Best, ///EuroCarGT 21:33, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
Actually, for a number of reasons, it is looking like we could be piloting later in January 2015. So, you would probably be in good shape. Even if we were to start in December, I'm sure there would still be an opportunity for you mentor if you were interested. I, JethroBT drop me a line 21:55, 28 October 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll probably join after reading some of the points listed on the project page. Best, --///EuroCarGT 22:10, 28 October 2014 (UTC)

Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello EuroCarGT/Archives/2014. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.

I hope this message finds you well and thanks again you for your efforts in this area. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 02:20, 18 November 2014 (UTC).

Would you have any suggestions?

A few months ago during the eventually unsuccessful Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/Piotrus_3 you voted "neutral". You said "Neutral more of leaning towards Support, still thinking of this candidate." I wonder if you ever had time to revisit this - did you decide to keep neutral, or did it slip your mind? I wonder if you'd have any suggestions in the event I'd decide to run again. Cheers, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:29, 18 November 2014 (UTC)

@Piotrus: I forgot to update my !vote on your RFA. Overall, my suggestions would be ensuring the concerns express on the oppose section don't happen again for a long time and keep on continuing good work on content. All of this would increase the trust the community has on you. Best, ///EuroCarGT 21:30, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for getting back to me. While I've continued to write content (DYKs, GAs, etc.) and intend to do so steadily, I'll note that this has never played a significant factor in the community's opinion of my suitability as an admin. Hence, I'd appreciate any suggestion regarding what you think are the major concerns that I could address (and that I haven't done so far). While of course I have thought about it myself, and tried to work on that, I wonder if you could spot something that I've missed. Feel free to examine my talk archives (which are not redacted) or any other logs and perhaps you'll be able to spot some problematic issues you think I need to work on? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:21, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
@Piotrus: I may not have the time to look at your talk page archives and user logs now, but I have watchlisted your talk page to have a sense of your interaction. I think for a admin candidate today, interaction is key and ideal, especially in heated discussions and for the new editors. Continue what you are doing and with the new years coming set some new years resolution on what you want to improve on. Best and kind regards, ///EuroCarGT 21:34, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on File:Bl1.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay.
