WikiCup 2014 June newsletter

After an extremely close race, Round 3 is over. 244 points secured a place in Round 4, which is comparable to previous years- 321 was required in 2013, while 243 points were needed in 2012. Pool C's Smithsonian Institution Godot13 (submissions) was the round's highest scorer, mostly due to a 32 featured pictures, including both scans and photographs. Also from Pool C, Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished second overall, claiming three featured articles, including the high-importance Grus (constellation). Third place was Pool B's , whose contributions included featured articles Russian battleship Poltava (1894) and Russian battleship Peresvet. Pool C saw the highest number of participants advance, with six out of eight making it to the next round.

The round saw this year's first featured portal, with Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions) taking Portal:Literature to featured status. The round also saw the first good topic points, thanks to Florida 12george1 (submissions) and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season. This means that all content types have been claimed this year. Other contributions of note this round include a featured topic on Maya Angelou's autobiographies from Idaho Figureskatingfan (submissions), a good article on the noted Czech footballer Tomáš Rosický from Bartošovice v Orlických horách Cloudz679 (submissions) and a now-featured video game screenshot, freely released due to the efforts of Republic of Rose Island Sven Manguard (submissions).

The judges would like to remind participants to update submission pages promptly. This means that content can be checked, and allows those following the competition (including those participating) to keep track of scores effectively. This round has seen discussion about various aspects of the WikiCup's rules and procedures. Those interested in the competition can be assured that formal discussions about how next year's competition will work will be opened shortly, and all are welcome to voice their views then. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Can you help me oval crop this and remove the text? I linked the page in the source section so if you can extract a better version than what I did, feel free. Just upload over existing. Thanks.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 22:02, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

I'll try to do so. Best, ///EuroCarGT 23:03, 7 July 2014 (UTC)
@KAVEBEAR: Here File:Edward W. Purvis, ca. 1880 (crop).png. Sorry for the delay. Best, ///EuroCarGT 00:43, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
No hurry. Thanks. I actually didn't ask for a transparent version but thanks anyway.. Can you whiten the background on the jpg image too and upload over it.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 01:16, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Sure thing. Best, --///EuroCarGT 01:27, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Parker family oval crop

Can you oval crop these images? The edge of the oval should snuggly touch with the edge of the images. Thanks in advance.

--KAVEBEAR (talk) 01:41, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

@KAVEBEAR: Sure, I'll have to upload them as a .png to show transparency. Also could you clarify The edge of the oval should snuggly touch with the edge of the images. Best, ///EuroCarGT 01:56, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
I just added that comment because some editors often just replace the non-oval region with white space and leave space between. Would you mind just editing the jpg image. I have need for png versions of them at the moment.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:04, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
@KAVEBEAR: Well jpg's don't have transparency unfortunately. --///EuroCarGT 02:08, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
I just mean what you did for File:Edward W. Purvis, ca. 1880.jpg.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 02:10, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
@KAVEBEAR: Got you! Thanks for the example. ///EuroCarGT 02:12, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Cropping

Can you help straighten and crop File:Henry Hoolulu Pitman, Hawaiian Gazette, 1910.jpg without losing an inch of the photograph within the frame? No other change is necessary. Thanks.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 00:23, 27 July 2014 (UTC)

Okay, will do. Best, ///EuroCarGT 00:24, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
Was adding this as the edit conflict occurred. And if you can, can you crop, clean and turn black and white File:Stephen Henry Phillips.jpg (kinda of like the original but with a tiny bit more room around the image since the original seems to be a bit too tight of a crop)? Hope you understood that. Although my top priority is the other image. Thanks--KAVEBEAR (talk) 00:28, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
@KAVEBEAR: I finished the first file, not sure if you wanted with the frame or not. I'm also working on the second one right now. ///EuroCarGT 00:33, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
Nice. Can you remove the frame? It nice to have it in the upload history but I don't think the image needs the frame? Thanks.--KAVEBEAR (talk) 00:35, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
@KAVEBEAR: Did that, I'll get the second one finished with the next hour or so, Windows has to install some updates. But don't worry. Best, ///EuroCarGT 00:41, 27 July 2014 (UTC)
