Some suggestions:

  1. Move the page to something a little less derogatory, such as AOLBroadcastFan, and delete this one
  2. Try to see if there is any pattern to the edits (day of the week, time of day)
  3. Try to track back through the edits to see if you can identify some of hte earliest edits by this editor. That may give a clue as to where they are from.
  4. Question: Do they only edit radio (& TV?) station articles? In no, what other articles do they edit?
  5. Since the info that is added is pretty detailed, do you have any idea where they are getting the data?

For some of this editor's LA area edits, look for the ones that I tagged with wikify and cleanup templates. BlankVerse 16:50, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I got the name from another case last year in which an anon user, under the same circumstances, created one-liners about not-so-well-known actors. Your suggestions are good, and I'll change the name, although I can't really tell anything else about this poster's habits, since other people use these IP's as well. I do remember first hearing about him here, in which it was suggested Ronald20 was using an AOL proxy. ErikNY 16:58, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, from what I've observed, he tends to make several edits at once, while posting from either the same IP or several IP's with very similar addresses. This might mean that he makes one edit, logs off, logs on again, and makes another edit. I've seen him edit in one period during a day, taking up to an hour to complete his intended edits. In addition, he tends to simply add on to existing pages which already have histories. And I have absolutely no idea where he gets his info a lot of the time. A case of enthusiasm over accuracy (and if someone wishes to do all the fiddly work...).

More info

User:Pentawing is another editor who has done some tracking/reverting of the edits of the AOLBroadcastFan. I did some analysis on the edits on a number of broadcast articles that can be found here. BlankVerse 07:24, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I already linked to a link to that article above, and that's where I first heard about this user. I didn't think much about him until he started to edit NYC radio articles. If you look at the talkpage for WABC (AM), this is where I first get really suspicious of his activities. ErikNY 12:52, 20 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

moved to Charter?

Has the AOLBroadcastFan moved to Charter Communications, or do we have a new broadcast fan doing odd edits? See this edit to the KCOP-TV article. I tried to find something on the internet about this expected change to KCOP, but couldn't. If it can't be verified, it should be removed. BlankVerse 08:04, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • This isn't the first time I've seen someone try to say that the UPN affiliation is changing in L.A.. From searching, this was a rumor back when KCAL was purchased by Viacom, they would switch to UPN. This is probably someone else, as his style is different from the AOL Broadcast Fan.ErikNY 13:35, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Anything new?

This hasn't been updated since November. Is this an archive? Is this user active anymore? Anything? Just wondering. --WCQuidditch 01:41, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
