Apologies, I don't actually think you're deliberately adding incorrect information. After reading a bit further down in the article that you linked on my talk page, I saw that the intensity was listed for several cities regarding that earthquake. These reports are based on several scales, and in that part of the world the Medvedev–Sponheuer–Karnik scale is used, and you may have misunderstood the number 7.5 for the city of Baikalsk to be a magnitude measurement (these numbers are not the same thing). What they're saying is that the observed intensity (as determined by people, not instruments) was 7 and a half on that intensity scale. It's not a magnitude scale. The magnitude, as reported by the USGS, was 6.3 (quite a ways off from 9.0 (I have no idea where you got that number)).

An earthquake of that magnitude may or may not be considered notable on the English wiki, but adding a link on a non-existent article on an already crowded template might not be the best thing to do.
