This entry is pretty goofy and has nothing to do with Zen or Buddhism. Trying to sort koans by such Western literary categories as these is comendable but is just not applicable.

For example, the koan Cypress Tree in the Courtyard is not an "allusion" as the definition of allusion is an implied or indirect reference and Zhaozhou's reference to the cypress tree in the courtyard is neither implied nor indirect. (Gregory Wonderwheel 7/20/07)
