Welcome to Esperanza!

Welcome, Dylan Lake, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). A timeline was absolutely unnecssary for such a non-transient subject matter. The Kathy Shooster article I'm currently working on

Dylan- Thanks so much for the help you've offered. I do have a question for you though, at this time.

The "article" I'm working on contains content from Kathy Shooster's web site. I have emailed her in regards to my intentions for creating this "article" (more likely a stub) for the entry entitled Bold textGalilee of the NationsBold text.

She has replied to my inquiry and granted me permission to do so.

Here's the question: How do I site her permission for the "green light" she's given, so that the "stub" I create isn't deleted, outright?

I do intend to make some cosmetic changes to the content I intend to use, but they are minor in nature.

I did not arbitrarily make these changes. Where I felt they were inaccurate, I removed them. Natural log?

I'm no professional mathematician, but in my experience "ln" (such as us used in your math humor) is generally used to differentiate as natural log, as opposed to just plain logarithm. Thus, your humor reads "natural log cabin" instead of just "log cabin". Of course I could be wrong by some wierd exception. Just curious, ßott e siηi ^(talk) 02:00, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah yes well in ~~college math classes~~ the math classes I've been in where we don't really care very much about other logarithms we rarely talk about logs with bases other than e so we generally refer to the natural logarithm as "log" unless otherwise specified. Yes technically it's incorrect but then it should also be natural logarithm of the absolute value of cabin. Such a good joke if we don't split hairs though... hi dylan. i guess i don't quite understand the wikipedia article process. how do i get to be one of you guys who can add or delete whatever they want to without warning? who determines the merit of certain articles? i'm sorry. i'm a little frustrated at how the rules are applied here. i thought that by adding a page about my band i was indeed stating fact about something which i am an authority in a place which i felt once could be considered a great online repository of information.

i would like page deleting powers so that i may "assist" you in removing every other page dealing with specific facets of the entertainment industry. (everything from "an affair to remember" to "zz top") we won't let these people advertise (per the links to sites where you can buy the merchandise) in this place! viva la wiki!

I appreciate your attitude and comments on my edits for corp ethics and SRI. My edits are, in fact, not commercial in nature, tho they link to my website. Our website has been on line since 11/16/1995. We were, in fact, the first corporate ethics and SRI website posted.

If you read the links, they offer neutral information on the topics.

Again, thanks for the reference. There is nothing in the link that is spam-like, except that it refers to a somewhat commercial site. If you read the article, you will note that it is simply a reworded version of this page on our site. Thus, since the article, in it's current state, is based on work we have a right to seek to link to the orginbal document.

For a second, I was worried

Having received gratuitous abuse and vilification on other "open forums" (IRC, et al), I was concerned by your message. I soon realized it was friendly and not accusatory. As a long-time reader of Wikipedia, I have only reluctantly engaged in objective editing - entries are difficult to properly state in "one take" and require due consideration of motivation and possible bias. I edited; you reverted (repeatedly). One edit does not always require an explanation, especially if it is one among many edits to the same article by the same person. However, you do need to explain yourself if you wish to revert (that is, restore a previous version of the article). One revert may be overlooked; but making several reverts in a row for no reason is vandalism. -- Nikodemos 10:07, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've read [3] and content reverts are not listed as vandalism. I thought that your edits were a step in wrong direction, and I reverted them. It's more about how you were reverting his edit without any explanation, and then when he reverted, you reverted back with an edit summary saying you were reverting vandalism... When you think edits are a step in the wrong direction you're not just supposed to revert. Non Compliant tag on Black concert T-shirt

I would like to know why you tagged Black concert T-shirt with a {{noncompliant}}? I will admit the article needs help but I think it is completely NPOV, and contains a reference to a legitimate news source. It does need more references, so perhaps a tag such as {{Unreferenced]] or {{Not verified}} is more appropriate? As for OR, I would say that there has got to be some material out there to prove that this is not original research I just don't know where to find it.--Mattarata 19:44, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach. Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.

The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived. There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia. The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested! In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias. A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted! Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Satire page is a mess. Can you help? Someone rewrote it @ Nov. 13 and has no idea what he's talking about. I think he may be the one who started the page. I've been in discussion with him for a few days, but he contradicts himself. I'd like to revrt it to what it was Nov 12 or so, but i don't know how. He may leave it if we revert. I have not been too confrontational and tried win him over a bit. He says satire is subtle, and that its not, drops names and gives no explanations. When I pointed this out he thanked me?! He didn't realize? Anyway, its a little wierd and frustrating. I wrote the "Meno" page. Have a look when you get a chance.
