Image copyrights

Draeco, thank you for your effort in uploading images and providing their sources. However, most of the images you have posted are copyright violations because Wikipedia does not have a license to use the image. See Wikipedia:Copyrights. Because of this, I am listing the images on Wikipedia:Copyright Problems and they will probably be deleted.

Also, there are several images you have uploaded that do not have an appropriate copyright license tag. Please provide information on the sources and licenses of these images:

I drew the inflorescences picture myself and grant Wikipedia the right to employ the image in any capacity. As for the other three images, I simply googled them back before I understood the copyright issues involved. They are probably not permissable. Draeco 13:05, 8 Septermper 2005 (UTC)

Copyright Protections?

Right now I have a "released into public domain" thing up on my page. I was wanting to post some of my "quickwrites" I have done in english class because some of them are kind of funny. I haven't yet because I don't want anyone to use my work for themselves. I obviously don't have a copyright on these though. Is it just not appropriate for Wikipedia to have stuff up I don't want others to copy, or is there a thing I can put up that says don't use my stuff.schyler 02:20, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Linking to a section

I have links to pages i have made a considerable addition to, but I don't want to link someone viewing my page to the whole article, I want to link them to that section I added. Timothy W. Lynch

Hello, You helped me a while ago, and I was wondering if there's any sort of bias check for editors. I found an article that i believe is noteworthy enough to keep on wikipedia but it's AfD page appears to have many votes by editors who are strongly biased just because it is on the subject of Star Trek and is borderline notable (Timothy W. Lynch), it recieves comments such as "...the content is so embarassing that I can't figure out what the fellow was thinking when he wrote it. Anyway, AfD will do him a favour and send it to the trash before he Galloways himself further" when the article was not vanity, while the editor who nominated it for deletion did so without even mentioning any of the facts and dismissed the whole thing as vandalism based on ONE act of vandalism by some unregistered clown taking off the questionable notability sign as vandalism. Do you have any thought on it? You have been really fair in judgement before, and have helped me, and seem like a very experienced user. Flypanam 02:47, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

I added the heading from my desk. Yours list an interest in history instread of CS, I left Physical sciences, you can adjust it. Queue size (max articles you feel comfortable working on at once) is currently 4.
I also added Tanaka Giichi as a history article (Japanese politician). I removed Algebraic syntax. And I fixed some syntax errors when you filled in your interests (you copied a line that had a mistake it is user: not username: it's fixed). RJFJR 23:05, 29 January 2006 (UTC)


Closure procedure is described on Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce, you make a note on the taskforce subpage, change the template on the articles talk page to say closed (it's actually a different template), remove the entry from the taskforce page's list of things to do and add it to the list of closed projects. Using templates

Hi Draeco. Thanks for your welcome. I am trying to track down a page with a list of templates for saying things like, "This is a stub," "This article needs clean-up," "This writer needs help with his/her English," etc. I'm sure I found one once, because I've used a couple of these in my anonymous days, but haven't managed to find it again. Q: Who do I contact about a suspicious article?

Recently found an article called S.P.A.A.R.T.I.. I suspect it's orginal research or someone's orginal creation that is not notable or canon in any series. Did a Google search, and discovered that Star Wars uses the term Spaarti as well, but does not match the information in the article.

Hello, need some help.

Oh and also a thanks for the welcome from me :) You said if I needed help I could ask you so here is my problem. I tried making a redirect for the RF Generation page but I can't seem to get it to work the way other redirects do. I can't figure out what I could possibly be doing wrong either. Edits on usertalk pages

On the one hand, I would like to thank you for your copyedits [1] on my usertalk page. "Soem" and "suspecious" were simple misspellings that the authors obviously didn't intend.

On the other hand, I think some of your other edits [2] [3] were less beneficial. I always respect others' word choice on my talk page, even though I could easily alter their text to suit my tastes. In fact, this extends to the point that I won't even change spelling erros, as you saw. I'd like you to extend the same courtesy, and I've reverted the "english-ifying" and "who/whom" edits (I'd be glad to explain my reasoning behind keeping "who" as an object pronoun). Title Banner on Mohali

Hi Draeco. Thanks for the welcome. I do have a question for you. On the page Mohali, In the last 3 days, I updated the page from about 15 lines to the current article seen. In the absence of an official seal/coat of arms/motto for the city of Mohali, I created one I thought to be accurate in introducing the city. It is quite simple. The name of the city flanked the Indian flag and India's national animal, the maneless tiger. It can be seen in the page history, or at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mohali&oldid=46344238. Another user has removed it, stating that if he threw a logo of Beefeater, the word London, and a red bus, and put it on the London city page, it would get removed. I responded with the fact that London has an official seal, and if they didn't, a banner with the word London, an English flag, and a Lion/Unicorn would be entirely appropriate. What is your take on this? I am really reluctant to take the banner down, as I take great pride in my city, and have gone to great lengths to make what I thought was an accurate portrayal of a Mohali seal. Master of Arts

Hello Draeco, I'm not sure on the usual course of action in these cases as I am fairly new to all this! The majority of the links are for postgraduate, but I have come accross several for Oxbridge and Scotland. If the current disambiguation page were to be redirected, I think the header would need to be clearer on the postgrad page as people may assume a MA is a postgraduate degree and not update links, possibly with:

This article is about the postgraduate degree. For the undergraduate degree from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, see Master of Arts (Oxbridge), or from the ancient universities of Scotland and the University of Dundee, see Master of Arts (Scotland).

This does seem quite long, and I think for clarity it may be best leaving it as it is. Do other people have any thoughts? Mattbr30 19:30, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

I've been really busy with schoolwork, and recently I haven't been as active on Wikipedia as I would like to be. I just noticed today that Enrique Gaspar y Rimbau was promoted to translation of the week without having the topic template updated. I updated the topic template to reflect the new translation of the week. Maybe clearer directions should be added to the page, so people who update the translation of the week know which templates to update and how it is important to contact Wikipedians who are interested in participating — J3ff 03:54, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Personal involvement

I was told that an editor may not edit an article about a subject that they were "personally involved in". In other words, if you work for a company or attend a particular school you may not edit an article on such a school or company.

Could you show me where this particular rule may be found.

Spanish translation

Thanks for the kind words. I enjoy translating from Spanish. My Spanish is not very fluent and I am hoping it will get better through translation. I find that a lot of translations end up sounding awkward because the original grammar never truly gets converted to English. I think to some extent it's an advantage to have to struggle, because without glib fluency, I am better able to convert the text completely to English syntax, and writing in English is what I do for a living. On the help front, this might be too much to ask, but I was just stumped with some parts of the translation of Trabancos River. The article is an artículos destacados, and is chock full of obscure (to me) geology and archeology terms. The main author of the Spanish article has been helping out with corrections. However, he also translated a number of sections but his English isn't great, and the sections were so garbled that in my attempt to turn them into English, I may have lost some of the meaning. Maybe you could take a look at the translation and see if there are any problems in the geology section translations? There are also a number of passages that remain untranslated (untranslated text appears in the article awaiting help). --Fuhghettaboutit 23:56, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

Another Question

Hi--I tried my hand at editing my first Wiki article "Keith Olbermann" yesterday. I chose to remove an external link to a fan forum/message board. The owner of the site got quite nasty with me although later, others agreed that the site should be removed. I asked for a Cabal ruling on this, and the person who was assigned the case agreed that the site should remained as he did not believe there were that many possible discussion forums for such an "obscure" personality and saw nothing wrong with listing such a fan forum on the external links. There are actually at least four more such sites, and at least two of these sites have far more posts and members who site has been added back in as an external link. I have pointed out that links to similar news organizations and news personalities have no such message board/fan forums links. But in the interest of fairness, have now edited the page to include listings to ALL five of these message boards. I guess I still have my doubts about whether a message board of any kind should be allowed to post or how decisions should be made for which sites should be included and which should not. Or is it all or none? Any insight on this would be greately appreciated! JeffBerg

But now, yet another Wiki user has stepped in, saying that it should be NO links whatsoever so they removed all the links I had added. I think the policy is pretty clear too and I agree with their edit but I was trying to work a compromise out here. I posted your interpretation of the rules in the discussion page but it seems that everyone has a different interpretation of those rules.

Quick spanish question: in the following passage what does presas refer to? I think it must be idiomatic:

"Al valle le da nombre el pueblo de Valsaín, un municipio que conserva su sabor tradicional situado en la parte baja del mismo. A parte de los pinares y robledales, en el fondo del valle hay tres áreas recreativas con parking y sucesivas pequeñas presas construidas en el río Eresma ideales para bañarse en verano. Desde estas áreas salen varios caminos que recorren el frondoso valle." (from es:Sierra de Guadarrama).

Mesoamerica Image

Thanks for the positive feedback. There doesn't seem to be a "squashed" problem anymore. It's just that when I first changed the image, it came out in my browser as if it were squashed into a space that was half as tall as the image appears now. It looks OK now though. Question about style

Hi Draeco, thanks for welcoming me and the open invitation to ask questions. Here's one for you: I've been making contributions, and changes, to some local community pages (Darien, Norwalk, Stamford and other municipalities in Connecticut), and I've been told by another contributor that I shouldn't change the order of the categories (especially keeping "Demographics" up top). The only reason sited is "Wikipedia style." He says that other contributors told him that when he first started contributing.

I've looked around as best I can, and I can't find any official Wikipedia style for that kind of thing. I believe Rambot generated all the Demographics information for communities (I think actually creating most of those sites in the process), but I see nothing on his page about protecting the order, so I don't think it harms any updating process.

I see no harm in moving "Demographics" down farther on the page to make way for more interesting sections, and I strongly suspect that the only reason it's up high is because no one dared change the order before. What would be the best way for me to (a) research this; (b) avoid stepping on others' toes in as reasonable a way as possible; and (c) move "Demographics" down the way I want ti (if I still want to after learning more)? I'm really messed up.

Gah! Why won't the picture on my first article, TreasureTrooper, scale? Also once that's been solved, can I create a discussion page for it? Allot has been happening with that and I'm curuous about it which is why I started the article. Great, and now I can't even find the article again in a search. Help? Please?
