Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Julietdeltalima (talk) 20:19, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Julietdeltalima. I noticed that you recently removed content from Oolong without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, please ask the editors at the Teahouse for a second opinion. What was your rationale in deleting good links in favor of a bad commercial link? Julietdeltalima (talk) 20:20, 26 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

The "possible origins" section mentions three versions of the term's origin, but lists two, and the old references lead to pages that do not list any versions at all. I searched for the mentioned terms and found a page listing three versions (with the other two matching the ones already present in the article), added the missing version, and the reference to that page. Tried to be concise about it in the edit summary, but probably overly terse. Now I looked into older versions of the article, and I see that it had 3 versions listed back in 2010, but at some point one of them went missing.

The referenced http://oolong.co.uk/tea/ now redirects to https://oolong.co.uk/tea-tasting/, which has no information on the name, but it used to be https://web.archive.org/web/20131216030752/http://oolong.co.uk/tea/, which includes the "Wu Liang" version. As for http://www.teamuse.com/article_060601.html, I see no information on the term origins there in either current or archived versions, except for a personal guess on the usage of "wu long" (but not the versions included into the article).

I do not insist on that particular source though, maybe there are better ones; not sure what is a reliable source on this topic. Uncertain about the information itself as well, actually. But currently it is inconsistent both within the section and with the referenced articles. Defanor (talk) 18:26, 29 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Found the first edit where those versions were introduced [1], though it has the "Anxi" version and "another tale" (which was there previously) as separate ones, making it four total, while they do look similar. But the initially referenced source [2] does not include those versions, and neither does its archived version from around that time [3]. Defanor (talk) 07:03, 30 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Added a section on that into the article's talk page [4], perhaps it is a more suitable place to discuss it. Defanor (talk) 09:07, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
