Happy editing! ~~~~ A belated welcome! I get that Wikipedia policy can be a little daunting at first but please don't give up. The links above should help you get your footing - please take a read through, and once you feel you have the basics you must follow the instructions at WP:COIDISCLOSEPAY, primarily being to disclose on your own Userpage, and requesting edits on the library's Talk page, which is the short of what the others have been asking. While it seems irritating, there are very good reasons behind it so please stick around, and we look forward to your contributions as I'm sure you have access to a lot of unique information. --Strangerpete (talk)

Information icon Hello, I'm Prahlad balaji. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Broward County Library, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. PRAHLADbalaji (M•T•AC) This message was left at 15:34, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Dattisan. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.

Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are extremely strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Dattisan. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Dattisan|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. PRAHLADbalaji (M•T•AC) This message was left at 15:58, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest

Hallo, I note that you say on Prahlad balaji's talk page:

I am employed by Broward County Library and among my duties is updating the Wikipedia page.
Della Attisani, Publications Specialist Marketing, Publicity and Communications Broward County Government, Libraries Division 100 S. Andrews Ave, 5th floor, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301 Library Marketing Team: 954-357-5520 Direct: 954-357-7400 dattisan@broward.org www.broward.org/library
I have the authority, expertise and knowledge of the facts to make changes on the Broward County Library page.
Kindly stop interfering with my work and the Library's business. Your involvement is not invited or appreciated.

Your library may be asking you to update the Wikipedia page, but they have no authority to do so. You may well have "knowledge of the facts" about the library, but you do not have the "authority" to make changes on the Wikipedia page about the library. The involvement of every editor is welcome on every page of this encyclopedia, and your statement "Your involvement is not invited or appreciated" is incorrect and rude. Please take the time to learn a little more about how Wikipedia works before making such heavy-handed statements. Editing the Wikipedia page is neither your work nor the Library's business. Just as we do not allow a politician's or pop singer's PR agency to edit and control their page, so we do not allow the staff of any organisation to control its page.

Please read WP:Conflict of interest. If you have suggestions as to how the article on Broward County Library should be improved or corrected, please make these suggestions on the talk page of the article, providing references to reliable published sources so that other editors can verify the information and can decide whether and how to edit the article. Please do not bring your employer into disrepute by taking such an inappropriate approach to editing the encyclopedia and to interacting with other editors.

Looking at the article, it needs drastic pruning: this international encyclopedia is not the place for such a promotional tone and such detailed listings of minor awards and achievements, largely unsupported by any sources. PamD 23:14, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

PamD They have emailed me declaring that they will email me the sources first, and have acknowledged their COI. And they have read WP:COI. PRAHLADbalaji (M•T•AC) This message was left at 23:41, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, Dattisan. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Broward County Library, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. - RichT|C|E-Mail 16:43, 16 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Dattisan, I received your email but editing should be discussed openly unless there are matters of privacy or legality involved. There is no concept of "who is my page editor?" Everyone is welcome to edit any page, with a few exceptions, as long as they abide by Wikipedia's policies (and they are also welcome to comment constructively on other edits, but not to claim ownership of a page and tell other editors to stay away). (Though someone who has edited an article copiously along its path to "Featured Article" status is allowed to be somewhat defensive of it). One exception is that an employee of an organisation should not edit the article about it. A major principle is that Wikipedia only includes information from published sources. If there are edits you think should be made to the article, please discuss on its talk page, citing your sources. If you want more eyes on discussion there, ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Libraries or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Florida . My impression is that the article at present includes large amounts of unencyclopedic material appropriate for the library's glossy promotional material or website but not for an international encyclopedia. PamD 14:33, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@PamD: Dattisan has been told at least twice (by both me and @Prahlad balaji:) that they need to disclose paid COI editing on Broward County Library but still have not done so. - RichT|C|E-Mail 14:37, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
IMHO, you guys are hyping up this editor. User is paid to edit, must disclose it. That's all. No need for a 12kB page. PRAHLADbalaji (M•T•AC) This message was left at 14:45, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I wanted to let you know that in your recent contributions to Broward County Library, you seemed to act as if you were the owner of the page. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to Wikipedia. This means that editors do not own articles, including ones they create, and should respect the work of their fellow contributors. If you create or edit an article, remember that others are free to change its content. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.
