Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block. Courcelles 17:24, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am attempting to write an objective article, complete with appropriate citations, about an organization that I feel is of topical interest to the people of Ontario. I was doing it as a subpage within my userspace so I could get it right and proper, and pass any muster required before publishing. Yes, I am writing about a trade organization representing small commercial entities, but I have seen many similar articles on Wikipedia. I am not a member of that organization, but admit to doing periodic computer programming work for them as an independent contractor, which is how they first came to my attention. This was an attempt to create my very first article for Wikipedia, because the other areas of my interest within Wikipedia have been aptly covered already by your editors. Then I saw that there was no article about the Ontario Craft Brewers and figured I could finally make a contribution. My user name is indeed the name of my company, because it is the legal entity that leases the IP address I am using.

Decline reason:

OK, but you are still not allowed to use a company name as your user name. Please make another unblock request in which you choose another user name, as instructed above. I'll recommend to the blocking administrator that you be unblocked then and your userspace article restored for improvement.  Sandstein  20:35, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Allowing username change to danieldowhal (talk · contribs). Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking.

Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, DanielDowhal. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Ontario Craft Brewers, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:01, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
