Your contributed article, French Campaign in Israel

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, French Campaign in Israel. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - French Campaign in Egypt and Syria. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at French Campaign in Egypt and Syria - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. andy (talk) 07:21, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article IDF's withdrawal from Sinai and Gaza (1956-1957) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is an essay, not an article. Unreferenced and the only external links are to a kids website. Fails WP:OR, WP:RS

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. andy (talk) 08:57, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Expropriation of the Weimar Republic has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Incomprehensible (machine?) translation of the German article http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/F%C3%BCrstenenteignung (hence also a copyvio, which could be healed by import, though). The title is also wrong and misleading. The article is about the expropriation of princes in the Weimar Republic, not the expropriation of the Weimar Republic.

AndreasPraefcke (talk) 10:18, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Coin945, have you actually read the article that you posted? It is a tranlsation of the German article, that's clear, but beyond that it's pretty much incomprehensible. Is it a machine translation (word for word?). However, even Google Translate gives a much better translation than this. Just read the first sentence of your article and tell me what it means... The dispute over the expropriation of the Weimar Republic dealt with the question of what assets of the German princely houses should be done with the that in the wake of the November Revolution had been disempowered politically. --AndreasPraefcke (talk) 12:42, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can you read the discussion at Talk:IDF's withdrawal from Sinai and Gaza (1956-1957)? The idea is to move the article into your userspace where you can work on it with a view to eventually moving it back to mainspace. If you know how to userfy an article you can just go ahead, if not please leave a note on my talk page and I'll do it for you. andy (talk) 18:05, 13 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know how to do it. Thanks :)--Coin945 (talk) 04:45, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For the same reason, can you pleas also userfy the other machine-translated articles you created? For example: History of the Israel national football team, Jerusalem during the Crusader period, Jerusalem during the Ottoman period, Jerusalem during the Second Temple Period, Jerusalem in the Mamluk period, and possibly others I missed? Thanks, Ynhockey (Talk) 09:18, 16 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Expropriation of the Princes in the Weimar Republic is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Expropriation of the Princes in the Weimar Republic until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. AndreasPraefcke (talk) 08:33, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

History of Jerusalem sub-articles

I suggest that you place wikilinks to various articles covering eras within the Jerusalem's history (Jerusalem in the Mamluk period, Jerusalem during the Crusader period, and Jerusalem during the Ottoman period, etc.) under the corresponding sections of the main History of Jerusalem article. Otherwise, they may be criticized for being "orphan" (or nearly orphaned) articles. • Astynax talk 09:18, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like a plan :)--Coin945 (talk) 09:20, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Carmel school.GIF

Thanks for uploading File:Carmel school.GIF. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 13:08, 14 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Strike-up-the-band.jpg

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Strike-up-the-band.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Courcelles 03:35, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Jerusalem during the Second Temple Period

Hi Coin945. User:Oncenawhile has again tried to implement his renaming scheme for the Jerusalem during the Second Temple Period article. Hello, I saw your question at Talk:Cleo (film) about the project's status. I found this article that talks about Soderbergh retiring soon and identifies the five remaining projects that he may do. None of them are Cleo, so I think that shows that it is not in active development. There can be a passing mention at Soderbergh's article, but I think director articles usually focus on produced works because they're tangible topics to cover. HH

Hi Coin, I am in London, UK, spending far too much time in Wikiland these days but happy to work on reshaping the HH articles. It's great that the Proms are spreading out these days and that HH can help. I did notice that HH series 2009 is no longer about 2009 and include shows broadcast this year. It seems the title was created to differentiate it from the animated series. Seems like either a retitling or a split is in order (a re-titling would be best, I imagine). Best wishes, happy editing. Span (talk) 09:59, 1 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ahh sorry, I tend to get a bit informal on talk pages. From now on, any casual conversation can be done here or on your talk page instead :). I enlisted Fricative's (the unofficial main author of the Glee-related articles) help and that is what she advised, he reasoning being hat in teh future tehre might be another animated/live action series which would cause retitling to be required. I personally didn't agrree with the decision of the change, but I don't know... what do you think? Also, what would a split entail? That article is only about the live action HH TV series.--Coin945 (talk) 03:01, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I couldn't follow your message. What was Fricative suggesting? Which change? My issue was that Horrible Histories (2009 TV series) that isn't just about 2009. The article is in a bit of a mess and lists info series 2 and 3 (2010-11). It would be logical to change the title of Horrible Histories (2009 TV series) to Horrible Histories (TV series).
I would then suggest merging Horrible Histories (2001 TV series) and Horrible Histories: Gory Games under this new heading as there is little substantive content in the 2001 and Games articles. We don't need contestant listings etc. There is much repetition. That would leave us with one article on all HH TV shows, one article on the books and one on 'other media'. Three articles for one topic would seem quite enough, and reduce confusion. Span (talk) 03:52, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh sorry, I kinda wrote all that in a rush... *blush*. Fricative suggested that the two articles should be named HH 2001 series and HH 2009 series because if they were called live action and animated, then if another live action or animated series was made, it would mean that the articles would have to be renamed anyways. Her rationale was that this way, no matter what other HH series were made, the titles could stay how they are. The idea is that the article is named according to the year it debuted, rather than all the years it was on. I do agree with you though. That article title should be changed. I haven't been involved in the tv series and games articles so they have become very messy. That has to be addressed. I do know that there is a lot of info on the (not so successful) game, so hat one might have a shot, but the 2001 series has very little left to offer. I don't think it is such a good idea to merge all these articles into one... the 2009 series seems to be exceedingly popular in it's own right, winning Baftas and stuff. I dunno... I think for the moment we just need to sort out the basics. Are you experienced as a TV series editor, or just for children's book series? I think as well as the HH page, the TV series should be completely altered to make it less fan-ficcy.--Coin945 (talk) 07:02, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Whilst that would make the article boundaries much less confusing, I can't help feeling that as a franchise, some of those concepts need to have articles about them in their own right. I even think we need extra articles for "list of episodes" for both TV series. What do you think?--Coin945 (talk) 07:07, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Credo (short film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article has not been covered by any secondary sources, it is not a notable film per WP:NF

Your contributed article: Monasteries in Spain

I've just been looking at your article Monasteries in Spain. First, thanks for your contributions Wiklipedia relies on volunteers like yourself. However, I noticed that the first thing which happened with this article was the insertion of 62,205 bytes, all in one go, with absolutely no references at all! Could you please go through the article inserting the references (an article of this size would require quite a number of them), or alternatively please direct us to the source of this information, as every article we have has to comply with the verifiability policy.

The second concern, when an article of this size suddenly appears all in one go, and unreferenced, is that it may contravene the copyright policy - in other words, simply have been copied in from elsewhere. Of course this may not be the case with this article, but adding inline citations to it should remove some of this concern. To do this, you'll find the citation templates especially helpful. We'd really appreciate it if you could provide the references required. You'll find this page on basic referencing useful to give you some pointers on how to do all this. Pesky (talkstalk!) 07:51, 8 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • You seem to have put the Spanish Wikipedia article through a machine translation system. That's OK in terms of copyright, but you ought to add the 60 references too, and improve the English where it's not good (eg the opening sentence!) PamD 13:54, 10 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • The proper method for noting attribution (which is required to comply with copyright) is set out at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. I'll take care of it in this instance, but if you've copied or translated content from other articles or Wikipedia projects before - even if it was a long time ago - please be sure to go back and provide attribution for that. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 19:03, 22 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In case you'd like to be notified of future meetups, I've added Category:Wikipedians in Perth to your user page. You can also watchlist Wikipedia:Meetup/Perth for the same purpose. The next Wikipedia-related events are Wikipedia Takes Fremantle this Saturday and Wikipedia Takes Joondalup the following Saturday. Hi Coin, you recently changed mass media with these edits. Because you added enormously to the lead, so i had to break/mix it into sections. Just please try not to make leads longer than their articles ;-) ~ benzband (talk) 11:27, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also please do not copy-paste. It looks like you may have done that from wiseGEEK. Sorry if i am mistaken. ~ benzband (talk) 12:33, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about the overly long intro. I just tried to get the info in the article before sorting through it all. It's the first step in a very long journey.. Secondly, with the copyvio, I'm almost certain that I didn't. I did use the website as a major source, but even in some sections where the sentences in the article pretty much link up to sentences in the original article, everything that I included I put into my own words. I did include one or two quotes from the site but I indicated that they were quotes and cited WiseGeek.--Coin945 (talk) 12:36, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
OK that's great! This article really needed some expansion anyway, as it is one of the few "core topics" of Wikipedia that still is a stub. Cheers :-) benzband (talk) 13:12, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I know :) I was hopping around Wikipedia yesterday and stumbled onto the featured article talk page where they were discussing the notion that the VA (Vital Articles) are being abandoned in favour of more obscure articles so I thought I'd tackle one. I chose a stub because it's easier to work with (essentially) a blank canvas! :D--Coin945 (talk) 13:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good luck then. And if you need a bit of help, just give a shout ;) - benzband (talk) 13:27, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks! If you have a minute or two to spare, perhaps you could have a brief read of what I've done so far and give me some feedback on where to go next. I found that a lot of the topics in this area seem to overlap... No doubt you've already skimmed through it when you reorganised the intro into subheadings :D. --Coin945 (talk) 13:44, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I had a look recently and it's great what you're doing! It may need some pictures and dome internal links in the future. BTW a while a go i did up the "Technologies" section, but it's now a bit deprecated next to all your extra stuff. Maybe it could be removed/merged with the rest?  :) ~ benzband (talk) 17:43, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation

The ArcheoWiki license is Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike. The Wikipedia license, however is Attribution-ShareAlike. Our content is intended to be free is a very broad sense, including the freedom for anyone to make use of the material and also to modify it, for any purpose, commercial of non commercial. ( see WP:Copyright for the formal policy. )

There are good arguments to be made for having a non-comercial restriction, and good arguments to be made for not having it. Many non-profit organizations--universities, museums, and academic wikis, use a non-commercial license, as matching the intended scope of their operating principles. But it was decided at Wikipedia at the very beginning that our principle was to do something more: to provide an encyclopedia whose content all the world is free to use, in the widest and fullest sense possible. The only restriction is Attribution, and share-alike, in fairness to our contributors and to prevent material from being passed off as if it had a greater degree of authority than it actually does. You may disagree hat this is the best policy--I had some doubts about the wisdom also to some extent when I cfirst ame here,, because it prevented us from using some excellent material. But such it is, and it's one of the very basic concepts here, and it is not going to change because of what you think about it.

(There is an exception at the English Wikipedia for limited fair use (in text, for brief attributed quotations, in images under some very special and complicated circumstances). Even here, our own restrictions are much narrower than the relatively full use provided by US copyright law. There is no conceivable way that an entire long page from another wiki can fall under fair use.

You have two alternatives. One is to persuade the operator of Archaeolwiki.org, who is apparently Paul James Cowie of Macquarie University, and also the owner of the content, to release the material under a free license. If you are by any chance that individual or a representative of him, or if you are not, but wish our help in persuading him, we will endeavor to do so--I will help you find the necessary assistance. There are several people who specialize in such persuasion, and they have had remarkable success--see WP:GLAM.

The other is to rewrite the material in your own words entirely, using that page and its references as sources of information only, and being very careful to avoid Close paraphrase. For the requirements for use of the images there, see WP:Copyright, and in more detail WP:NFCC and [[WP:DCM].

If you would like to discuss this further, I'll point you to some suitable places, but all we can do there is try to convince you of the merits of our policy. My own obligation as an administrator here, is to delete this page, and any other material you have placing under such circumstances. I have no options about it, and will check for additional violating material a little later today if nobody has done so before I get to it. DGG ( talk ) 19:09, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in that case, I was mistaken. In all honesty I was completely unaware of this. I assumed that as another Wiki (and skimming over the share license), the content was free, and therefore we'd be able to use it. So, what you're saying is, even though as part of the license, we are free "to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work", Wikipedia still won't let us...?? Damn.. The other articles on Wikipedia, created from other content from that site, must also be deleted in that case...--Coin945 (talk) 19:29, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It isn't Wikipedia that put this restriction on Archaeowiki content. The contributors to ArchaeoWiki did it, by including the "non-commercial" clause on the license. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 21:41, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This particular Wiki seems to be written by a single individual, Paul James Cowie, a graduate student at Macquarie University. He could change his licensing at any time, if he were asked to, & if it were explained that this would permit the use of his work here. He lists archaeowiki as his personal home p. at the university site, [1] DGG ( talk ) 23:30, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've sent an email to him. Now, we wait..--Coin945 (talk) 05:01, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Coin945, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!

I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, May-December relationships, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

It helps to explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the Help Desk. Thanks again for contributing! First Light (talk) 21:32, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Requested articles

Hi Coin945, Just because an article is requested doesn't mean it should be created. Wikipedia:Requested articles mentions this, and includes some links that explain Wikipedia's inclusion guidelines. Wiktionary[2] is the best place to create articles that are nothing more than dictionary definitions. regards, First Light (talk) 05:55, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I am aware of that. I didn't use that as as a retionale for why the article should be kept.. I just thought I should mention it. My self-sppointed task in the past couple of days has been to clear out the massive backlog of redlinks in Wikipedia:Requested articles/Social sciences, by making lots of stubs. I know it might sound lazy but int he process, I leave it to others to work out the notablity of the articles, and then keep/delete at their own pace. I think of it as a production line. So if these articles need to deleted, merged, or redirected, so be it. I have no arguments agaist it, besides in some cases, there are other sources out these that I just didn't use because I can only afford a short amount of time to each stub. All I ask is that if an article is deleted, if someone changes the redlinks on the other article, that would be awesome. I don't want to (some time along the track) see a page full of as many redlinks as i started off with :P.--Coin945 (talk) 09:33, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns with your editing

From a look at this talk page, I am significantly concerned at the volume of cleanup work you are generating for other editors. I do not question that you are editing in good faith, but competence is required as well.

Before you create another article, please review: the notability requirements, the definition of a reliable source (TVTropes is not one), What Wikipedia is not, and most importantly, the copyright requirements. Continued creation of inappropriate articles may necessitate a block from editing, and any further cut-pastes into articles from external websites most certainly will, as this is in violation of copyright. Seraphimblade Talk to me 19:56, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ditto. Especially the massive "volume of cleanup work you are generating for other editors" and "Before you create another article...." Your contributed article, Word recognition

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, Word recognition. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as yourself. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - Bouma. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Bouma - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Bazj (talk) 12:30, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Speedy at Word recognition

Hi Coin945, you recently removed a deletion tag from Word recognition. Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 12:34, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. I'm reverting it now.--Coin945 (talk) 12:35, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
