How to write decades

Hi, Cfsformations. I wanted to point out why someone undid your edit to South African American. Wikipedia has style guidelines for nearly every area of writing, including one for writing decades: WP:DECADE. When writing decades, we don't put an apostrophe before the "s". So we'd write 1990s, not 1990's. When the first two digits are left off, we'd put an apostrophe at the beginning, e.g. '90s. We have this style on Wikipedia to match the majority of professional writing guides, including Chicago, MLA and Associated Press. You can learn more about Wikipedia's official style guide at Wikipedia:Manual of Style. If you have any other questions, your fellow editors are here for you. It is not going to lifted; you are welcome to create an account for yourself as an individual. We do not allow role accounts. --jpgordon::==( o ) 17:03, 28 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We have now been blocked for over 12 Months, as a mistake, we were new to Wikipedia and were unsure what we could post on our page. We are now trying to work within the rules and this is just a learning curve for what we can and cant do. Will our CFSFormations always be blocked? Do we have to have a name on our user? Thank you for your time CFS International Formations (talk)

Hi there. Yes, this particular account will always be blocked, because it's used by multiple people. Wikipedia follows a rule of one person, one account. While you can no longer use the Cfsformations account to edit Wikipedia, you can still use the Cfsformations user page as a means for other editors to contact your organization (per the WP:NOSHARE policy). To edit Wikipedia, you are welcome to create separate accounts for each individual person that needs access. Ibadibam (talk) 02:51, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The page is used by a single person only, this is the director of the company, please advise why this is not acceptable?CFS International Formations (talk)
While your use of the account is within acceptable use, the mere fact that the account name implies shared use means that it's likely other editors will attempt to get you blocked in the future. Your best bet that I can think of at this point is to request a new username for this account (click here for that), and under REASON= say, "My username is the name of a company and I would like to change it to comply with the [[WP:ORGNAME]] and [[WP:ISU]] policies. This is a a non-shared, single-user account."
I'll further point out that, per WP:ISU, any new director at CFS will need their own account—we prefer that accounts not be transferred from person to person. It's very important that we be able to account for every contributor, in case of a dispute, vandalism, or copyright complaint. Ibadibam (talk) 19:44, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

We would like to change the Username of CFS Formations to Ben@CFSFormations, I have tried the link that was provided in your previous reply, however I cannot request to change out username? Please could you assist? CFS International Formations (talk)

I have made a request on your behalf. I think the new name you've chosen shouldn't present any problems, but we'll see what the administrators say. Ibadibam (talk) 19:05, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
In practice, we generally have accounts blocked for their username request an unblock with their desired new username first; accounts are generally unblocked before they are renamed. You may use the {{unblock-un | user=new username | reason=your reason here}} code to request this; replace "new username" with your desired new username, and "your reason here" with your reasoning for the unblock.
On another note, a rename to "Ben@CFSFormations" unfortunately cannot be done, since usernames cannot contain the "@" character. I would suggest "Ben at CFSFormations" as your new username. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:21, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am still unable to change our username, Ben at CFS Formations is fine, please could you assist? I appreciate your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cfsformations (talkcontribs) 09:18, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Can you try adding {{unblock-un | user=new username | reason=your reason here}} to your talk page, replacing "new username" with "Ben at CFS Formations" and "your reason here" for your reasoning for the unblock? Once the block is lifted, I'm more than happy to rename you to your new username. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 18:15, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Max Semenik (talk) 22:36, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I know that this is the reason that CFS was blocked, I was unaware that you were now allowed to create name as a business as this is the first account that I created so was not really sure what I was doing. Once I am unblocked I can assure you that I will not violate any of the policies that you have mentioned. CFS International Formations (talk)

Okay, now that you know you can't write about your employer, what are your editing plans? Max Semenik (talk) 19:26, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that as the Director of a Successful Formation Agent, I could provide a lot of information that I feel is missing off the Company Formation Pages, I would not write about our company directly but add the information that people would like to know about company formations. CFS International Formations (talk)

Please could someone respond to my query? (talk)

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. (Sorry it's a two-part process, but admins don't have the power to do the actual rename.) Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:51, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tips on appealing your block

Just to specifically call out sections of the policy, to make sure the reason for your block has been adequately explained:

  • WP:ORGNAME: Wikipedia policy disallows "Usernames that unambiguously consist of a name of a company, group, institution or product"
  • WP:NOSHARE: "Any user account should represent an individual and not a group"

However, this particular block was a mistake. WP:ORGNAME specifically says, "Users who adopt such usernames, but who are not editing problematically in related articles, should not be blocked. Instead, they should be gently encouraged to change their username." That the blocking administrator apparently ignored this clause should be sufficient grounds to reverse the block, especially if you will submit a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple for a new username that does not violate the policy. Hi Ibadibam. As you are not an admin, you cannot see this user's deleted contributions - and they have had a promotional page deleted. Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:32, 22 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
