File permission problem with File:Comparison of Minor-Planet Moons.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Comparison of Minor-Planet Moons.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

Replaceable fair use File:Asteroid Comparison.gif

Thanks for uploading File:Asteroid Comparison.gif. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Proper orbital elements

Hello Carbon6,

I notice that you have been adding proper orbital elements to asteroids such as 164 Eva, 279 Thule, 426 Hippo, etc. I notice you have been listing JPL SBDB's mean motion (in degrees/DAY) for a value requiring degrees/YEAR. Near-Earth asteroids such as 2010 JL88 will not have proper orbital elements as they are frequently perturbed by planets. Not all asteroids have proper orbital elements because many proper orbital elements are not close enough to the Osculating orbit solution. I suggest you check the AstDyS-2 for synthetic proper orbital elements. AstDyS-2 is the same group as NEODyS. AstDyS-2 lists mean motion in deg/yr as used by Wikipedia infobox. Well known main belt asteroids such as 1 Ceres, 2 Pallas, 3 Juno, etc. already include synthetic proper orbital elements from AstDyS-2. You are welcome. Your articles look good. Keep up the good work. To get the proper inclination you will want to use a calculator to get the arcsin of i. For 426 Hippo AstDyS lists sin(i) = 0.348242. A calculator will give arcsin (0.348242) = 20.3798°. On my calculator arcsin appears as sin-1 (shift sin). -- Kheider (talk) 15:16, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
