Please move Portal:Taiwan back to Portal:Republic of China. The portal for China is Portal:People's Republic of China and not Portal:China. By having the portal at Portal:Taiwan it raises the political status problem. Taiwan is officially the Republic of China and not Taiwan. Please understand. Thanks. -- Nrtm81 15:04, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1. Portal:China is redirected to Portal:People's Republic of China, it is the portal for China.

2. The Geography Portal pages are for the geographic entities. Having a geography portal page doesn't necessarily imply it's a nation or any type of political entity. For example, Portal:Ireland is for the island of Ireland, contains information related to both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

3. To name the portal page for Taiwan as Portal:Republic of China is improper. Firstly, the name clearly implicates it is a nation, which causes political disputes obviously. Secondly, the Republic of China is not a firm geographic concept, since the areas controlled or claimed by it have varied greatly over time, the name Portal:Republic of China will confuse readers who are interested in different periods of ROC.

4. The name Republic of China is disputed even within Taiwan, many people consider it as a doubtful concept, and argue the range of its territory, or avoid using it due to its controversial political meanings. For example, pro-china political organizations usually take off the flag of ROC or all things related to ROC when they have visitors from China. Captain0 16:29, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, hopefully I got you. So the portal will focus on Taiwan and it's history without any bias towards the Chinese people's (both on China and Taiwan) version of the island's history. Since I heard that the teaching of the island's history tended to be biased towards the Chinese version. In other words, more focus should also be given to the original inhabitants, the history of Dutch, Japanese colonial rule, and also non-Chinese topics to make it unbiased and more open. -- Nrtm81 16:49, 7 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Captain0, there's a dispute over the naming of the Portal. Could I ask you to give your input to the mediators? I've requested a mediation (See: Wikipedia:Mediation Cabal/Cases/2006-06-21 Portal:Taiwan ) to find a solution to the dispute. Also check the talk page on the portal for more information. I think I'm not doing a good job in getting User:Chiang Kai-shek to understand that the portal is geographic and covers ROC topics. It seems he just wants to make the portal about "ROC (Taiwan)" because the China portal is redirected to "PRC". If a general concensus on an accepted Portal name can be obtained, future disputes over the portal name can be avoided (I hope). — Nrtm81 07:48, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Captain0. This is just a note to inform you that there is a mediation process currently ongoing at Portal talk:Taiwan which you might be interested in as you have commented on that page before. However, do not feel pressured to comment here as the mediation process is between Nrtm81 and Chiang Kai-shek. If you don't want to get involved in the issue, you don't have to. On the flip side of that, if you feel that you have something helpful to add, please do! We would aprichiate any comment that you have on the matter, and would like it if you could help us resolve the issue. Yours, The Halo (talk) 10:24, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Captain0, the mediation is over, it's now awaiting acceptance/rejection by the Arbitration Committeee. — Nrtm81 17:40, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Captain0, are you on a Wikibreak? Well, we're not getting anywhere with Portal:Taiwan. I can't get Chiang Kai-shek to understand and accept the purpose and intent of the portal. If you don't mind, could you add your thoughts at Portal talk:Taiwan. By the way, the portal has now been split three-ways: Portal:Taiwan, Portal:Free Area of the Republic of China, Portal:Republic of China. The first is about Taiwan, the second about the territories currently under ROC control, and the last is about the political entity of ROC. — Nrtm81 06:20, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for my absence from the discussion, due to some personal issues which I have to cope with this month. Anyway, I will give my opinion latter. (^ ^; Captain0 06:33, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
