Guideline and policy news

Technical news

  • Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Wikipedia and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.
  • The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team is currently looking for input on how to measure the effectiveness of blocks. This is in particular related to how they will measure the success of the aforementioned partial blocks.
  • Because of a data centre test, you will be able to read but not edit the Wikimedia projects for up to an hour on 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time.

Arbitration

  • The Arbitration Committee has, by motion, amended the procedure on functionary inactivity.
  • The community consultation for 2018 CheckUser and Oversight appointments has concluded. Appointments will be made by October 11.
  • Following a request for comment, the size of the Arbitration Committee will be decreased to 13 arbitrators, starting in 2019. Additionally, the minimum support percentage required to be appointed to a two-year term on ArbCom has been increased to 60%. ArbCom candidates who receive between 50% and 60% support will be appointed to one-year terms instead.
  • Nominations for the 2018 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission are being accepted until 12 October. These are the editors who help run the ArbCom election smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering for this role, please consider nominating yourself.

Hi, I appreciate you sort listing the AFDs but just thought I'd let you know you have been listing American Football AFDs at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Football which is used for association football rather than the American variety. R96Skinner (talk) 00:11, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

Reverted Edits

Hello, regarding the revision you reverted, it was constructive, as the current version has a line mentioning "a very very very long time to pour coolade in my mouth". My revision was a copy-paste of a revision that did not include that line. I believe you were mistaken in undoing my revision, and felt like I should explain why. Thanks for letting me know -Jebcubed

Your revision of my "unconstructive" contribution

On what basis did you decide that this contribution (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jim%20Broadbent&diff=864892273) was not constructive? The edit was to italicise the title of a play, which is appropriate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcc84mcc (talkcontribs) 06:27, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Mobile Ticketing

Hello, I see you reverted an edit in Mobile Ticketing. Could you explain why. The subject was in poor state and not revised since some years. I do have knowledge of the subject as I worked on maybee the first serious mobile ticketing system in 2003-2005. Very few people know about this history. I can upgrade the article to a better one and adding serious references. Another moderator is of the opinion that just because I happenend to work on the subject I am not allowed to do so. I do it openly, I could have created an anonymous identity but that is not my style. It is an interesting subject because it is a still fast growing way of ticketing that in the future everybody will be using. I add links to public references and try to write in a neutral way. I have no connection at all with the business since 1-1-2006, and the company doesn't even exist since it was closed down by the end of 2007. We were to early, mobile ticketing was and is promising but takes a long time. Think of a scientist in a certain area. Would he not be a good author on the subject he works on? Hope to get a message from you. I am a bit lost in all the pages in WIKIPEDIA with comments and so so I hope I find your answer.HugoBeunder (talk) 06:45, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
