I did NOT copy & paste anything. He, personally, sent me his biography and I edited some grammatical errors. He told me that he never gave those sites any copyright permission. I would not consider what I am doing for him a "Conflict of Interest" because all I did was create & format the page. I had NO language that praised him in any way, shape, or form.

Editing on behalf of someone else is not allowed (see WP:MEAT). The text that you contributed here is identical to the text found on web pages mentioned above. Those web pages are marked "© 2016 IAJSD All Rights Reserved" and similar. That means that reusing such text is not allowed. Vanjagenije (talk) 12:42, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My professor never gave these sites permission to copyright HIS biography. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 20:15, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

In that case he should sort it out with them. Vanjagenije (talk) 21:48, 1 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kamau Kenyatta

Please stop creating the page for Kamau Kenyatta using text copied from other sources. Wikipedia articles must be written in your words. Further infractions will result in temporary loss of editing privileges. Primefac (talk) 22:54, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The biography was copied from Kamau Kenyatta, himself, without permission and has since been deleted from the other websites. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 23:28, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If it's been copied from somewhere else, it's been copied from somewhere else. There is no "but" about it. Primefac (talk) 23:32, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me; not copied. He sent me the document of his bio, I edited it without any praising language and posted it onto his page. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 05:05, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It was found on a website with a stated copyright claim, meaning that the work is under copyright. Please see WP:DONATETEXT to go through the process of donating the material to Wikipedia. Primefac (talk) 12:27, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please list the websites that have copyright claim of his biography so we could take care of the situation. Thank you so much! Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 06:23, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It is much easier to just write things in your own words. Primefac (talk) 13:57, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry; but, if it's just one website popping up, could you please list it? Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 23:38, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't matter if it was one site or twenty, writing in your own words means you don't have to worry about copying from other people. Primefac (talk) 02:34, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to post this biography one more time because the site that had "copyright claim" has been removed. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 19:50, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you decide to do that, it will be deleted again, because it was on the site and the webarchive has a record of it. Please, just write it in your own words and save everyone the hassle. Primefac (talk) 19:52, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I was able to get it removed from the webarchive. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 20:18, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's still a copyright violation. Therefore, I have deleted the page (again). If you really wish to create a page about Kenyatta, you must do so in your own words. I cannot stress that enough. I've locked creation of the page due to the repeated infractions, so if you want to make another attempt you will need to create it either in the Draft space (at Draft:Kamau Kenyatta) or in your sandbox. Primefac (talk) 02:17, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How is it still a "copyright violation?" <http://www.imperialavenuestreetfest.com/?gavern_speakers=hello> was given NO consent to copyright Kamau Kenyatta's biography. He did NOT release anything to anyone. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 02:45, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Plus, the information isn't even on the website anymore. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 02:47, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The content about Kenyatta was hosted on a site that has copyrighted the content on their website. In other words, it existed somewhere else before it existed on Wikipedia. Regardless of who originally wrote the bio, it was not written for Wikipedia, and thus is under copyright. In order for it to be released to Wikipedia, it must be explicitly given for use on the site.
Think about it like a book. I write a book, and I lend it to my friend. She makes a dozen copies, and says it's copyrighted. The copyright still rests with me (even if she burns those dozen copies), and unless I specifically release that copyright, it still exists.
Since you are adamant about not actually doing any work yourself, getting Kenyatta to release the text (via the instructions at WP:DONATETEXT) seems to be the only option left for you. Alternately, you could write an article in your own words and avoid this entire mess.
And for the record, a record of the page still exists on the web archive. Primefac (talk) 03:35, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I'm just trying to help someone out and you saying, "you are adamant about not actually doing any work yourself..." is not helping. Yeah, I've never posted anything to Wikipedia before, which is why I need assistance doing so. Stop being so condescending... "And for the record, a record of the page still exists on the web archive." I only said it was deleted because I received confirmation of it being "removed." So, instead of constantly removing my work & telling me what I can't do. Why don't you give me some credit for trying to submit something that my professor wrote? I did not even know I could "donate text"... Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 03:45, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry if you feel I'm being condescending, but you haven't exactly been helping this process along. A week ago I told you copy/pasting material from other sources was unacceptable. I've asked you thrice to write it in your words, and twice how to donate the text to Wikipedia. Since that initial warning you have repeatedly insisted that it's not copyright, focused solely on getting the text removed from the website (also known as "trying to hide the evidence"), and re-posted the same material on Wikipedia despite me telling you explicitly not to. So yes, if I imply that you have no interest in writing a biography in your own words, I think I'm fairly justified in doing so.
So let's try this again.
Content on Wikipedia cannot be copied from other sources, even if the original copy has been deleted. If the creator of the original copy wishes to release the text to Wikipedia, they may do so (see previous links). If the original creator cannot be contacted (or refuses to release the content), then the text to be placed on the page must be written in an editor's own words.
If you still wish to write about Kenyatta, please either use the draft space or your sandbox so that it can be reviewed before being moved to the article space. Thank you. Primefac (talk) 12:57, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, he did win a Grammy. That is why I added the in-text citation of the Grammy website. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 00:58, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Here, is proof that Kamau Kenyatta did receive another Grammy...

"Hi Kamau- we can have your statue sent out as early as tomorrow." [This email is from Brian Clasby.]

If you need proof of the statue, I can provide that; however, I do not know how to insert a picture into this thread.

Have there been any updates regarding the page for Kamau Kenyatta? Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 21:31, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Given that the draft hasn't been edited since it was declined, no. However, given that emails and personal images are not acceptable as reliable sources for verification purposes, you'll need to find something better if you want to demonstrate his Grammy history. Primefac (talk) 16:09, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do you think you could suggest "something better" to demonstrate his Grammy history? Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 23:05, 4 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Newspaper, magazine, the Grammy site itself with a specific mention of his name, all of which would be perfectly acceptable. Primefac (talk) 02:05, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Would these links be acceptable? http://musicweb.ucsd.edu/media/news.php?query_status=&query_id=406 https://www.grammy.com/grammys/artists/kamau-kenyatta

Please advise. Thank you very much. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 06:56, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. Primefac (talk) 16:16, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome! Could you please help me place these links in the proper section so this article can be approved?

Please advise. Thank you! Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 20:54, 5 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do I place these links in a references section or do I have to insert them as in-text citations?

Please advise. Thank you! Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 21:46, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have re-submitted the page for Kamau Kenyatta. Please let me know if there should be anymore changes. Thank you very much. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 22:25, 20 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You really need more than 3 references, as another reviewer noted previously Gbawden (talk) 13:04, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have added more sources... Would it be possible to check over the page for Kamau Kenyatta, again? Please advise. Thank you very much. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 07:31, 16 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your article meets the GNG and Notability Guidelines for Musicians, largely because of this grammy [2]. However, right now, all of the references list Kamau Kenyatta as the author of the articles, when in fact they are written by independent sources. If you could change them (as I've done for the first two, inserting the articles' authors and changing from "cite web" to "cite news"), that would make the sourcing clear for people who are patrolling new pages.--Carwil (talk) 03:42, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Carwil: Hi, Carwil -- I'm sorry for the late reply. Thank you so much for all your help! I really appreciate all you have done to help me publish Kamau Kenyatta's page. I will continue to correct the authors of the cited sources. Could you possibly assist me in adding a picture to his page? I trust your guidance because you actually give examples of what should be corrected, like your assistance in properly citing the source authors. Please advise. With gratitude. Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 06:31, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Buns & Boo-Boo, if you know Kamau Kenyatta personally, I recommend working with someone who has taken a photo of him who might want to contribute that photo with a free license. You can read about that here. If not, consider searching for searching for a file with an appropriate license on Flickr: read this page for help. It's generally not legally acceptable to upload a copyrighted image of a public figure in the middle of their career, since a free image could be legally obtained just by attending their concerts with a camera. See Wikipedia:Non-free_content#Meeting_the_no_free_equivalent_criterion. Thanks for contributing and best of luck to you.--Carwil (talk) 11:52, 28 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Carwil: Hi, Carwil -- Kamau Kenyatta and I have been talking with the photographer who took the portrait photo, currently on his Wikipedia page. We have created a license on the Creative Commons website and have inserted proof into the source. Everything seems to be working just fine; however, before we start to celebrate could you please look over my work to see if I missed any details in submitting the photo. I trust your judgment and guidance! Thank you very much! Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 00:02, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It looks good. I would only say, be ready to have the photographer confirm the license, if asked. Congratulations on your page!--Carwil (talk) 16:57, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Carwil: Hi, Carwil -- Thank you so much for all your help; I could not have done this without you! When you say "be ready to have the photographer confirm the license," what exactly do you mean by that? Are you referring to the HTML link that I received after submitting the photo to http://commons.wikimedia.org OR are you referring to the actual license from Creative Commons? Also, where & which link should I have the photographer post on his website? Please advise. Thank you, Buns & Boo-Boo (talk) 00:32, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've actually never had to use this process (I've uploaded my own images, basically.), but here it is… https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:OTRS. You can direct the photographer to go to this page, and (easier) click on the "Interactive Release Generator" button or (slightly harder) use the template to write an e-mail. Eventually (there's a shortage of volunteers), the image involved will be tagged as verified released by the original photographer. Don't hesitate to message me if something happens to it before then.--Carwil (talk) 02:46, 13 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
