bk, I have a dyk on this article that is stalled (maybe permanently) in the consideration process Template:Did you know nominations/Bill Smith (Fell runner). Any suggestions? 7&6=thirteen () 17:00, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Duplicates

We have a problem where the 9 (number) article and the 9 (disambiguation) article have the same content. Instead of reverting me, i would appreciate if you sorted out these duplicates. This prolem also exists on other number articles Pass a Method talk 18:25, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Not entirely sure what you mean. I removed all the duplicates and all the unambiguous partial title matches that were not appropriate to include on the disambiguation page. olderwiser 20:01, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
i mean the 9 (number) article has many subsections which should probably be copy-pasted to the disambiguation page. For example the game section should most likely be moved. Pass a Method talk 02:21, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
The criteria for including entries on a disambiguation page are that they are ambiguous. If they are not ambiguous, they should not be moved to the disambiguation page. If you want to remove them from the number page, that's another matter. But there is no reason to simply move the unambiguous content to the disambiguation page. olderwiser 11:35, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I'm curious why you want to have that acronym in there. As far as I know, acronyms should only be introduced if they are subsequently used in the text, which in this short stub is not the case (nor is it necessary). Given that, all WP readers are literate (by definition :-), so I really don't see any use for the acronym (and we don't have acronyms in most of the thousands of articles on academic journals, either). Thanks. --Crusio (talk) 13:27, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

It is the justification for listing the journal on JAH (disambiguation). If the article does not make a assertion that it is known by a name or acronym, there is no basis for including it on the disambiguation page (unless one wants to invoke IAR and common sense, which is fraught with difficulties as can be seen at MJ, Talk:MJ#Should this disambiguation page list Michael Jackson and Michael Jordan?, Talk:Michael Jackson and Talk:Michael Jordan). olderwiser 13:38, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
  • OK, I see. I still don't like having the acronym in this article, but will leave it in place. However, I edit a lot of journal articles and I habitually remove such acronyms (unless used later in the text), so the next time I edit this article, I may forget about this promise... :-) On the other hand, these things tend to be rather stable, so the chances of me getting back there any time soon are remote... --Crusio (talk) 14:18, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
It might help if you think of the acronym as an alternate name for the entity and a relevant factoid in itself rather than the more typical use of a parenthetical reference as you describe. olderwiser 14:40, 2 November 2011 (UTC)

Following your revert of my edit to WP:RELATED, I initiated a Talk page discussion. As I said in the discussion, though, I'm quite puzzled by your reason for reverting me, because your rationale seems to be a disagreement with the actual guideline and not to my edit, which was only an attempt to clarify the existing guideline. I wondered if you perhaps didn't understand that the subtopic was already under "Examples of improper use"; I wasn't inserting the notion that this sort of hatnote is improper. If such a misunderstanding did take place, I'd appreciate it if you undid your revert; otherwise, you're welcome to explain further your objection to my change at WT:HATNOTE. Nord-Ost

Hi! About http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Northeast&diff=458843629&oldid=458827663

Well, "Nord-Est" redirects to "Northeast" - it's a possible misspelling of "Nord-Ost"

"Nord-Ost" itself means "Northeast" and its possible some translations may render the play's name as "Northeast" WhisperToMe (talk) 18:32, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

Understood, but in general hatnotes on disambiguation pages are unusual. The hatnote for the University on Northeast is also questionable, but considering that the school is fairly well-known it seems less out-of-place as it could arguably be the primary topic for Northeastern. If Nord-Ost is ambiguous with Northeast, it should likely be included on the disambiguation page, much like the entries for Nord-Est. olderwiser 18:53, 3 November 2011 (UTC)

botched Roots (disambiguation) redirect

Oops, that was sloppy of me. I must be too accustomed to leaving off the (disambiguation) to avoid double redirects. Thanks for fixing it. Nick Number (talk) 16:12, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Mark Stanley

Regarding your revert of my turning Mark Stanley (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) into a disambiguation page: I have deleted the links to that page, because I may apparently conclude that these are about non-notable persons. Also, for logical consistency, I have nominated Category:Ballets designed by Mark Stanley for deletion: Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 November 5#Category:Ballets designed by Mark Stanley. – gpvos (talk) 13:23, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

There is certainly some potential for there to be an article about the ballet designer, or at least a substantive mention within some other article such that Mark Stanley (ballet designer) would satisfy the criteria at WP:DABRL. But at present, the only "Mark Stanley" for the purposes of disambiguation is the guitarist. Although the problem is compounded by the extremely marginal notability of Mark Stanley (guitarist). I mean, if there were such as thing as a List of ballet designers with some verifiable information about Mark Stanley, that could satisfy the criteria for WP:DABRL. olderwiser 14:28, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Although, after looking more closely at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2011 November 5#Category:Ballets designed by Mark Stanley and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mark Stanley (lighting designer), I think the description of "ballet designer" may be misleading. It appears he designed the lighting for these ballets. Bleh. Looks like some messy overcategorization. olderwiser 14:36, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Yes, only one of the articles in the category actually mentions him. I suspect a large part, or even all, of the Category:Ballets by designer tree could go, but I haven't checked. – gpvos (talk) 08:44, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Hi, you apparently uploaded this in 2004 from a state government website without providing evidence of permission, so I tagged it. Regards Hekerui (talk) 22:18, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

The source was provided and recorded in the original upload on EN. This was part of the transfer to commons, but was mysteriously "cleaned up" by Magog the Ogre earlier in 2011. This was before there was a formal process for documenting permissions. Not sure if you're looking for more evidence than that. olderwiser 23:04, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Drew

Hey will you please elaborate on why you removed my addition of justin bieber the article on the word Drew since it is his middle name. (-: --87.48.149.132 (talk) 09:58, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Is he commonly called simply "Drew"? If not, then there is no ambiguity and does not warrant an entry on the disambiguation page. olderwiser 13:20, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
Its giving 504.000.000 hits on google Justin Drew Bieber, while justin bieber gives 379,000,000. it's good enough for us to say that he is often called Drew? 80.161.143.239 (talk) 16:18, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
No. That is a complete crock of original research. Find some reliable sources that refer to him as "Drew" alone and then there may be something to consider. olderwiser 17:48, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

Trumpeter

I was surprised to see your revert to the trumpeter disambiguation. “May be casually referred to”? Can you provide a citation that supports this for the swan, hornbill and finch – especially the last two? To be sure nothing is missed I've added a similar question at WikiProject Birds. • Rabo³ • 05:15, 12 November 2011 (UTC)

My incompetent edit of a disambiguation page

I noticed that you reverted my edit, saying "one blue link per line on disambiguation pages". Thanks – I wasn't aware of that policy. Hopefully I will remember it in the future. —BarrelProof (talk) 19:04, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

Unnecessary Editing

Bkonrad, Bkonrad, BKONRAD, HOW YOU DARE YOU REVERT MY MOST BEAUTIFUL EDITS ON WIKIPEDIA!? I mean, the only reason why I removed Ice Age's Manny, Sid, and Diego from the MSD article is because they do not need to be in it. And Finding Nemo's Nemo, Marlin, and Dory do not need to be included in the NMD article, either. I'LL EDIT WHENEVER I WANT! DO YOU UNDERSTAND!? 14:57, 26 November 2011 (UTC)99.252.141.19

Why remove the ISO 4217 link from the disambiguation pages?

I don't really follow why you removed the links to ISO 4217 on the all those disambiguation pages( Example). Since ISO 4217 is mentioned why not link? It only adds to the entry having it there. And why not link the country as well?
