Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. "deleted" images

I actually didn't delete them originally, User:Quadell did. After he deleted them i just removed the then-nonexistent images from the boxes. originally you used the "use for wikipedia only" license, which is not allowed. Who did you e-mail about the page? If you e-mailed permissions-en@wikimedia.org, just want for an OTRS admin to contact you about it. If you verify your licensure appropriately, then you will be allowed to re-create the page, and the OTRS admin will note your ticket number on the talk page. If you no longer have the page content at hand, request undeletion of an admin.

Austen Lennon

Gosh but this ain't easy. Austen Lennon page. I think I have put on links references the way that they should be but I don't know and if I have should I remove the messages at the top myself or do I get shot at dawn for doing that?. Help please. I can't even figure out how to put my signature on..... groan.

Usually we don't wait until dawn.. :) Seriously, though, the intent of the tags is to assist you (or other editors) in addition sources to help fullfill the Wikipedia guidelines, specifically WP:BIO and WP:BLP. Also, because you are the subject of the article, you need to be very careful to follow WP:COI. As you can tell from those guidelines, we take reliable sources very seriously, and require a good deal of them. Looking over the article, it seems that it is better sourced then it was before, but I think there needs to be some more information to make WP:BIO and WP:BLP happy, and to appease editors that would be concerned about the conflict of interest. If you feel that you have fulfilled what you need, then you may remove the tags, but know that other editors may replace them, or in a drastic case, nominate the page for deletion. If that happens, then your best defense will be reliable sources, and lots of them. I'll keep an eye on the page, and tidy up where I can. The links that I put on were NOT inappropriate external links they were links to the management companys of various artists that I took days to find and as such are important in fidning the artists contacts. I was given the picture by Ruth Lansford. Does that make a difference? I have other images that were given to me by her management. Is there a differnece when it comes to the copyright? I have had confirmation back from David Hull Promotions and they confirm that the images are free enough for anyone to use it including modifications and commercial use and that I Austen Lennon have the right to release them under those conditions. Images and wiki commons

If your images are fully "free to use", then think about uploading to wikicommons - see "commons" link at bottom of the main wikipage. You log in and choose a username, like on this wiki. I guess that you would need to explain how you have copyright, as people will find the pictures on the internet too. Images are easier for other language wikis to use from wikicommons, and so it is usually preferable. Once uploaded to wikicommons, you (or anyone) can link them to the English wiki (or any language wiki - Irish language say) in the same way as if they were uploaded to the English wiki. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. Hi, sorry for the delay in replying to your email. It took me a while to figure out who you were, what image you were referring to and where you had posted that reply.

The problems here are that 1) The tag you used states that you are the copyright holder, when you obviously are not, and 2) The permission you obtained is vague and needs to be confirmed. You will find instructions with regard to #2 at WP:COPYREQ. Once the OTRS staff confirms that everything is in order, you can replace the bad image tag with one that matches the license selected by the copyright holder and does not assert that you own the image. Actually, that tag's not going to work. Unless the copyright holder licenses it as a free image, it can only be used pursuant to Wikipedia's non-free content policy, which prohibits most non-free images of living people. Sorry it's so complicated, but the Wikimedia Foundation's goal of making this a "free" encyclopedia makes using other people's image very challenging. -- But|seriously|folks  00:43, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
