How does X work?

Looking for a wise Wikipedia admin to be my guide and mentor

aseem seth (talk) 01:39, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You'll want to check out Wikipedia:Adopt-a-user or add the code {{subst:adopt me}} to your user page to ask for "adoption" by a mentor. If you have any specific questions about editing Wikipedia, the {{help me}} template you used here is likely to quickly summon someone to provide an answer. Another good place to look for uncomplicated help is the Teahouse. Huon (talk) 01:55, 15 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A belated welcome!

Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Aseemseth. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Aristophanes68 (talk) 22:56, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse talkback: you've got messages!

Hello, Aseemseth. Your question has been answered at the Teahouse Q&A board. Feel free to reply there!

Non-adoption

Firstly your user page: 1) writing in the third person is very stilted and is also likely to get the page accused of masquerading as an article. 2) Wikipedia is very public - including contact details is strongly discouraged. 3) your user page is primarily for you to tell us about what you do on Wikipedia but, that bit can wait until you actually have something to show! 4) a limited biography is allowed but turning into your CV is not.

You say "… why my edits are not being accepted". In the last eight months you have done just one useful edit but it has survived. You said: "I would like to create and populate entries for TimesJobs.com and SimplyMarry.com but they keep getting removed...". Possibly because they were spammy articles about non-notable websites! If you are wanting to promote these websites, don't you think it was very naïve of you to declare your COI on you user page?

You made this redirect request. Things wrong: horribly wrong format links - should have been Dr.Bhimrao Ramji AmbedkarBR Ambedkar; no space after Dr.; redirect not needed - we do not put honorifics in titles and we already have a redirect at Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar. In any case I can never understand why the Articles for creation/Redirects page exists - if you see the need for a redirect - go and create it!

Do you want to tell me what you were to trying to achieve with this vandalism, or shall we just write it off as a newbie mistake?

I will not offer to adopt you because adopters should be patient and gentle and that is not me! But I shall be watching you and if you want advice, you are very welcome to ask on my talk page. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:33, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Hi, Aseemseth! Am Wikikicology and since you had promised to pay it forward if I help you to learn, I'm ready to adopt you. There are lots to learn here and I can assure you that you will really enjoy your time here on Wikipedia. Firstly, RHaworth (talk · contribs) concerns about the content of your user page and edit behavior are correct but I want to believe that you are not here to promote a business but here to build an encyclopedia. I will help you to correct your edit habit but you may consider to read this guideline and policy first and thereafter, leave a message on my talk page. Cheers!.
