I removed this fact you recently added to DYK, because I cannot find any evidence that the person who created the snack is the same person who is governor of Maryland. -- tariqabjotu 15:12, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Correct; they're not the same person. -- tariqabjotu 15:22, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you believe that Michael Toles played the iconic "wah wah" guitar intro? I've had many personal conversations with Charles "Skip" Pitts in which he states that he authored and performed that guitar lick. (As a side question, would you have automatically seen this question if I placed it in the "Talk" page for Theme from Shaft? - Yellowdogrecords | 10:40, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Wire season 5 plot summary

The season article plot summary is part of the episode table. The short summary belongs on the main page as with the other seasons. I will reference it and move it come Sunday when the finale airs.--Opark 77 (talk) 08:17, 7 March 2008 (UTC) Hi, I read your reply on my "Talk" page and see that you've changed the Theme from Shaft article. Thanks! I agree that the Blender article is a bit misleading, but if you read paragraph 6 of that article carefully I think it's clear that it states that Pitts was the player of that part. I looked and haven't found an article that gives a third-party validation of Pitts' claim, but here is an article that documents Pitts making the claim: [1] . I'm not sure how or if that reference should be added to the Theme from Shaft article, but I'm just referring you to it as an interesting FYI.[reply]

Actually, this article [2] shows Isaac Hayes referring to Pitts as "the original wa-wa guy on 'Shaft'". So that's pretty definitive. Again FYI... {Yellowdogrecords 11:26, 5 January 2007 (UTC)}[reply]

Re:Please exercise more care in updating DYK

It appears it was not a voluntary lack of judgment, but a slight misinterpretation of the rules. I had been under the impression that DYK's that weren't originally marked as stubs could also be expanded significantly and be placed on DYK. This article was expanded with 20KB+ worth of material, and I felt that it was a good DYK pick since I had thought it was a valid candidate. Anyway, thanks for letting me know. No one else had brought it up at the suggestion page (and another admin had commented on it), so I hadn't know it was a problem. Nishkid64 23:37, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for opinion

Hi,

There's an AfD debate about deleting the List of bow tie wearers page. Back in February there was a debate about the similar Category for Famous bow tie wearers, and I see you were in favor of keeping that category (now gone). If you're still interested in the subject, please visit Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of bow tie wearers and insert your two cents. If not interested, sorry to bother you. Umlauts!

Thanks for removing those; I was clicking to use it in Pöttering but they got lost. Went back to fix but it was done. Good quick work! Teke (talk) 21:16, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You helped choose Wall Street Crash of 1929 as this week's WP:ACID winner

Thank you for your support of the Article Improvement Drive.
This week Wall Street Crash of 1929 was selected to be improved to featured article status.
Hope you can help.

Hello. I've tackled the lack of criticism in the Aaron Sorkin article that you pointed out. I would appreciate it if you could give the article another look at, and possibly strike out your opposition? Thanks.-BiancaOfHell 10:24, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Would you mind either reinforcing your opposition to the Aaron Sorkin article at the FAC page, or striking out your opposition in favor of a Support?-BiancaOfHell 13:42, 4 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do appreciate your edit of the article, but the reason we (the Scouting project) don't put country/association specific links of this nature in international scope articles is that the editors from the other countries complain about the article becoming (usually BSA/America) country specific. Winter storm picture

I think the image on ITN needs to be changed since it is of especially poor quality. I would suggest Image:Snowstorm-2007-02-15.jpg, but since I took the picture, I didn't want to add it myself. Additionally, there are other photos in the winter storm article available as well. -- tariqabjotu 18:19, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see you're no longer online, so I went ahead and made the change. -- tariqabjotu 18:35, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Janey

The Simpsons character Janey is Lisa's age, and would not need the tickets. On the other hand, Jamie, though a character on Malcolm in the Middle is Maggie's age and his mother would lose her dignity over that. --Jnelson09 03:08, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I reintroduced the text you deleted. I think it is still relevant, as past events happened, and denials in these sort of events are quite important. Later recognition doesn't delete past denials. I hope you won't find any objections to it. Tazmaniacs 00:51, 26 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

conflation

I reverted your conflation of Haji Shahzada (Guantanamo detainee 952), the rural landowner, and Mullah Shahzada (Taliban commander).

I am assuming you were fooled by the two men sharing the same name.

I explained my reversion here.

I remain mystified by your edit summary: "this info is all at target name"

Only a paragraph of the Shahzada (Guantanamo detainee 952) article is devoted to Taliban commanders named Shahzada, and that paragraph certainly does not contain all the info in Shahzada (Taliban commander)

A recent article on Huffington Post cites Shahzada (Taliban commander), and I believe they meant to cite the version prior to your redirection.

Cheers! -- Geo Swan 18:19, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of The Wire episodes

Hey Andrew. Noting that you edited List of The Wire episodes within the last few months and being aware of your interest in the show I wonder if you have an opinion about the use of screenshots in this article and would welcome your opinion here if you have time.--Opark 77 22:47, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cascading protection

I'm not sure if you just forgot or just were not active when cascading protection was introduced, but there is no need to protect an image on the Main Page (unless, of course, the image is on Commons, in which case some action will be needed). -- tariqabjotu 03:18, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Jared. I removed some language you added to 100-Hour Plan on March 28 saying that none of the measures of the plan have gotten further than passing the House. I am not sure where your information came from but it is well out of date. H.R. 2 (minimum wage increase) passed the Senate on February 1, and Sen. 4 (implementing 9/11 commission recommendations) passed the Senate on March 13. Andrew Levine 03:00, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks. I was just trying to reword the no-doubt POV language that was already there. I hadn't realized that there were senate actions. Now, since these dates were so long ago, it seems that the president would have had to veto them by now (or they were at least pocketed, right)? Make sure to include, though, that none of the bills has become law yet. Jaredtalk  13:21, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed at Plymouth Colony

I noticed that you had done some work at History of New Jersey that had resulted in that article receiving featured status. I have been a principal editor at Plymouth Colony, and seeing as both articles are part of American History, I thought perhaps you might have some interest in hlping to improve that article. The article is up for featured article candidacy and several reviewers have requested that I recruit some other editors to look over the article and make additional changes. I would appreciate if, in your free time, you could look it over, make any changes as you see fit, and also make any comments you would like on the WP:FAC nomination. Thanks alot, and happy editing!--Jayron32|talk|contribs 16:19, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed with some Magic images

Hello, Magic: The Gathering sets is currently nominated for Featured List status at Wikipedia:Featured_list_candidates#Magic:_The_Gathering_sets. Pictures

Hi. As most famous people's biographies have a picture of them on the cover, I was wondering if biography covers would be generally considered ok for use as pictures of people in their articles. Coudln't find it mentioned anywhree in the help. While I'm sure the original image used for a cover would be copyrighted, once it becomes a book cover, with the text for the title, Author, etc. does that make it ok to use? Or would we have to take a photo of the book (a 3-dimensional item) before we could use its cover?--Jeff79 21:38, 28 April 2007 (

UTC)

Even though the copright holders of the book covers would no doubt want those covers to appear in as many places as much as possible?--Jeff79 04:54, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, you stated opposed on the FAC for Homer's Enemy a while ago, and the article has since undergone a major underhaul and has been improved quite considerably. I was wondering if you could take a look and see if your previously stated concerns have been appeased. Thanks for the time, Scorpion 05:37, 29 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A popular newspaper columnist forced to stop his column to work a reporting beat instead is a big deal. I'm sort of stunned that you removed the controversy header without doing any research into it. Please be more careful next time. - Stick Fig 07:17, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm standing my ground here. This is an unpopular move and we need to point out the reaction as such. If you want to clean it up, please find better sources, but your edits have the effect of underplaying a story about a famous columnist being forced out of a career. Instead of reverting blindly, let's discuss it. - Stick Fig 22:35, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yoghurt

I want to start out by saying I'm really sorry that this happened - I did my best to stop it (since the discussion has happened so many times), but sadly I have been overruled by 4 people who are obsessed with name changing (regardless of whether or not I agree with them). There is a new debate on the Yoghurt talk page about the move - I just felt it would be best if most people who had voted in the past knew about this.danielfolsom 00:04, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your changes to Polly and Her Pals. I trusted my sources a bit too much in this case, and forgot European comics history. I can only suppose that Comiclopedia meant either the first American comic, or the first daily comic strip, with a female protagonist (Bécassine was weekly). Anyway, the current version at the Main Page is certainly more correct. Fram 10:18, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Monte Ne

Hi, you posted an opinion in a previous FA nomination page for the Monte Ne article. Since then the article has gone through considerable revision. Would you mind please taking a look at it at the article once more and leaving a new comment in the new FA nomination that is going on right now. Thank you. --The_stuart 22:06, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Circus metal (again)

Hello. I am messaging you about the recreation (I believe for the fifth time) of the article Circus metal. I have seen you have participated in a previous AfD procedure for the article, and I would think you would be interested to give your opinion in the most recent one. Thanks in advance.

Advice

Hi there, we're having a problem over at WP:TV. Basically an editor is making against consensus edits to TV show articles. I wonder if you have any experience with trying to engage editors who make against consensus edits in discussion when they have refused to do so?--Opark 77 10:50, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. I've never submitted a DYK before this one, and I was sorry to see that it was removed. I was under the impression that in addition to new articles, those that have had some sort of significant expansion were eligible as well. As the news of Wright's US Express win in 1980 was just released by Wired last week, I thought this would qualify. What makes it not so, so I can make proper submissions in the future? --Ioeth (talk contribs friendly) 14:29, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

I wonder if I can ask your advice? I've recently come under fire from an IP address for using "Stewart" to refer to the fictional character Joseph "Proposition Joe" Stewart. The IP editor has re-worded some plot summaries to read "Prop Joe" or "Joe". I have tried to look for a guideline to clarify the correct approach but have been unable to find a relevant one. I understand from our discussion about Bubbles (The Wire) that naming conventions allow for use of a nickname where it is more commonly used/known than the character's real name. However, when writing in formal tone for a plot summary what should we use? I certainly think Joe is inappropriate when aiming for formal tone - it is not a nickname and is simply the character's first name. Repeatedly using "Proposition Joe" seems unwieldy so I adopted "Stewart" instead. Is their a guideline for this issue? Where would be the best place to initiate a discussion on this in your opinion?--Opark 77 (talk) 16:34, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Leopold-loeb.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:59, 4 March 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Angr If you've written a quality article... 22:59, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Leopold-loeb.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Leopold-loeb.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 18:31, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject The Wire

Hello, Andrew Levine/archive3 and thank you for your contributions on articles related to The Wire. I'd like to invite you to become a part of Wikipedia: WikiProject The Wire, a WikiProject aiming to improve coverage of The Wire and related articles on Wikipedia.

If you would like to help out and participate, please visit the project page for more information. Thanks! Creamy3 (talk) 19:45, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to WikiProject The Wire Andrew Levine! I'm new to the world of WikiProjects so maybe you can help me out getting started. I look forward to working with you. Feel free to tell me about anything from "Wire" related articles that we should be working on. Thank you so much. Creamy3 (talk) 19:47, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Andrew Levine, do you know many other users on Wikipedia who would be interested in joining the Wire's WikiProject? If so, let me know. Thanks. --Creamy3 (talk) 22:45, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm a bit concerned about this. Yesterday the "project" had several members who were all named Creamy. Today they are all gone. Creamy3 has been using non-free images in the projects templates inappropriately and I can't find any proposal for the creation of the project. Help getting to the bottom of this would be much appreciated.--Opark 77 (talk) 20:06, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The above message from me was deleted by Creamy3 with this edit - just restoring it. Some of my concerns since then have been addressed - the non-free images thing seems to have been a good faith mistake because the user was unaware of the fair use guidelines. However, I could still use some input on whether the project has been created in line with wikipedia policy and where all the other members with similar usernames went!--Opark 77 (talk) 22:57, 19 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think all of my concerns have now been addressed so you can ignore the above from me.--Opark 77 (talk) 07:50, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Andrew Levine, you can add this to your user page if you like.

Use of term "Christian Terrorist" in Joe Scarborough article

Hi, I hope you can help with this issue. I was referred upward to an admin for this issue. Here it is:

In the Joe Scarborough article there is a reference to a man that Joe offered to defend. This man has been tried and convicted of murdering an abortion doctor. I had been reading the Christian terrorism article and it seemed to me that this man fit the description.

I inserted the link for Christian terrorist before the man's name as descriptor. I would find it missing (without comment) and I would replace it. But then yesterday it was labeled vandalism and I was warned twice; again without comment. I tried from yesterday until today to get an explanation. It was as I suspected a liability issue (as my 'special comment' on the Discussion page of the Scarborough article states).

My question is this: Wikipedia has an excellent article on Christian terrorism. If this man is not one - who is? Does Wikipedia describe ANYONE as a Christian terrorist? Or does the truth suffer due to fear of liability. Wikipedia should know that truth is a defense for libel.

The editor I was dealing with conceded finally that this was not vandalism. Could these warnings be removed from my record?

I thank you for any assistance you can offer or any perspective you can bring to this. Thank you very much. 72.92.4.157 (talk) 20:07, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
