Thanks!

Thanks for picking up that bracketing mistake on Pocoyo. I totally missed that one. DudeWithAFeud (talk) 04:13, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

I second that, regarding the Hindi soap opera I just edited on. Shucks, I even previewed the page before saving. The timely alert is much appreciated. — ℜob C. alias ÀLAROB 03:33, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

Gotcha

Thanks have seen it guess missed it let me correct it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alfred Ochali (talkcontribs) 15:42, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

RE:September 2013

Yeah, sorry about that. That was a total mistake, but I already fixed it. -- 173.76.123.202 (talk) 10:35, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for fixing it! Huon (talk) 11:19, 6 September 2013 (UTC)

Herewith, a stranger doth suggest a Revision unto the last of the bullets contained within thy Notice. Amen.

I'm enough of a pedant to be fairly familiar with early modern conjugation, and enough of a southerner to be steeped in the language of the King James. So how's this sound?

  • First shalt thou read the rules, then shalt thou lay thy fingers upon thy keyboard and type upon it, and the extent of thy typing shall be the full length of thy message, neither more, nor less. A message shall be the full measure of thy typing, and the full measure of thy typing shall be thy message. Spam shalt thou not type, neither shalt thou type a message, excepting that thou then proceed to sign it. Complaining is right out. Verily, verily, once the message has been typéd, then shalt thou click thy mouse pointer upon the "Save Page" button of the screen, which screen, upon receiving the click, shalt give tidings unto thy computer to send the same.

Amen. Praise the Lord and pass the Holy Hand Grenade. — ℜob C. alias ÀLAROB 03:45, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

Nothing but interruptions

Hello,

So far your Bracket Bot has shown a talent for interrupting my composition of new articles, and naught else. Can you keep it off the pages I am working upon?

Georgejdorner (talk) 14:44, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

User:BracketBot#Opting out may have the information you're looking for. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:21, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Contrary to the above, I believe that BracketBot is very useful, espcially for inveterate bracket-droppers like me, and is also one of the politest bots I've encountered on Wikipedia or anywhere else. Keep up the good work, BB. I think I'm falling in love. Brianboulton (talk) 19:23, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

I don't know how I managed to delete the final bracket, or then miss that that was the problem like five times. Bracket Bot is awesome it's like a really specific syntax checker for morons like me who can't check their own syntax (please inform me if that is considered an attack, otherwise I assume it's acceptable to write) UniversityofPi (talk) 09:33, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

I'm a long-term editor, and apparently also a moron :-) So, thanks, BracketBot and A930913, for pointing out my error in King of Texas! RossPatterson (talk) 15:00, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

10 Years Live Not Dead

Hello BracketBot,

Thanks for sending the notification. I've duly fixed the typo raised by you on the above article. Can I edit the notification section, now? Best regards. (MrNiceGuy1113 (talk) 07:26, 9 September 2013 (UTC))

Sure you can. Thanks for fixing the issue! Huon (talk) 19:02, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the message regarding the error in my recent edit to the Joe Lockhart article. I think I have corrected the problem, but please feel free to double-check the article and let me know if any further corrections to my recent edits are needed. --TommyBoy (talk) 12:27, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Aosta

Hi, thanks for your message. Everything seems to be fixed now, right? --Simoncik84 (talk) 08:11, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

It is now, thanks. Huon (talk) 01:24, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't notice that bracket. Thank you very much. --Simoncik84 (talk) 16:34, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Rename this article?

Concerning the article about the Fort Bard, I thought that as for the Amber Fort, where the first word indicates the location, it might be more correct to rename this article into "Bard Fort". Wouldn't it sound more correct in English? --Simoncik84 (talk) 12:51, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

That would depend on the name that's actually used. Compare the Tower of London to Windsor Castle. The fort seems to be commonly called "Fort Bard". Huon (talk) 01:24, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
In the Aosta Valley official website it is called "Bard Fortress", and this should be the most reliable source, I would say. What do you think? In my opinion "Fort Bard" indicated "Bard" as the name of the fort itself, while in this case "Bard" is the name of the hamlet beside the fort. This is the same for "Castello di Windsor" (it) - "Château de Windsor" (fr) - "Windsor Castle", do you see what I mean? But since I'm not a native English speaker, I need your opinion. --Simoncik84 (talk) 16:38, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

FYI....

I liked the idea you had about the topicon on your userpage, I have made it into a template. If you object to me doing this, please let me know, and I will delete it. you can find it at {{IRC topicon}}. Thanks, Mdann52 (talk) 12:35, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

2013 South American Under 17 Women's Championship

Hi BracketBot. I have fixed the error on the 2013 South American Under 17 Women's Championship. Thanks for your help. I need your help to the edit this page. Ionel141 (talk) 9:03, 14 September 2013

Thank you for fixing the issue. BracketBot is an automated program that notifies users of possibly mismatched brackets; it cannot help you edit a page. I'd say you need some additional sources, and you should clarify in the very first sentence - possibly in the title - that it's a soccer championship. I'm a little surprised that the articles on previous editions of this event don't do so, either. Huon (talk) 11:02, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

BracketBot notifications

Hi. Could your bot add talkpage notifications in the style of DPL bot? For example, the last BB notification on my talkpage was tagged onto an existing section (August 2013), whereas DPL Bot has the full date in the title (for example - "Disambiguation link notification for August 14"). This would make your bot notification easier to find, as I assume it would then be the message at the foot of a talkpage, instead of being buried elsewhere. Thanks. A930913 isn't all that active, but as I said the last time, to my knowledge that's deliberate; BracketBot messages are supposed to be treated like Twinkle warnings (say for vandalism) in hopes of vandal fighters seeing them and fixing the issue. Huon (talk) 11:02, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

I think BracketBot broke something

Hi! So BracketBot left a message on another user's talkpage, and something in the wikicode of that message is preventing subsequent messages I left on that page from actually showing up. Just thought you should know. Cheers, — Preceding signed comment added by Cymru.lass (talkcontribs) 23:26, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Ouch, this is rare but potentially serious. Apparently the bot had a problem because the text it tried to quote contained a <nowiki/> tag, interfering with the bot's own use of that tag. I'll fix the talk page message, but A930913 should think of something to prevent this outright. Huon (talk) 00:57, 15 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi,

I realised I had neglected this little bit here.

Evidence towards the correct spelling can be found here:

  • The National Biography of Finland, published by the Finnish Literature Society.
  • Suomalais-Ugrilaisen Seuran Toimituksia (SuST)/Mémoires de la Société Finno-Ougrienne (MSFOu)
    • 152. 1973. 292 p. Michael Branch, A. J. Sjögren: Studies of the North. (ISBN 951-9019-04-9) 20 €.

You cannot get a more prestigious view on this matter than this.

Michael Branch is actually the author in both cases, I happen to own his dissertation (SuST/MSFOu 152). His spelling is what I use. And everyone else in this country, practically. The source of ambiguity might be the earlier habit of assimilating names to fit domestic variants of names, thus all the Jameses who were kings in England, are called Jaakko here in Finland. (This practice has now been discontinued in Finland, thus KOTUS recommends that when Charles becomes king, he should be called Charles by Finns speaking and/or writing in Finnish, instead of Kaarle, which is being used of past King Charleses.) Please let me know if you need further evidence in this matter. Apanuggpak (talk) 20:04, 16 September 2013 (UTC)

Page protection

Hi, bracketbot can please tell how to protect pooja welling article so that few ppl can edit it... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.193.42.87 (talk) 08:26, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

We don't protect pages without a very good reason, and then only to stop disruption. I see no indication that the Pooja Welling article is subject to frequent vandalism. Huon (talk) 16:27, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

At a glance I'd say BracketBot is right; the brackets in that Citation bot edit are mismatched. Huon (talk) 20:23, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Well, I think Bracketbot has been a bit of a bounder. Better look more closely. [2] EEng (talk) 20:32, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
