Random act of kindness

Hello A930913, Eduemoni has given you a shining smiling star! You see, these things promote WikiLove and hopefully this has made your day better. Spread the Shining Smiling Star whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or someone putting up with some stick at this time. Enjoy! Eduemoni↑talk↓ 18:21, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

Brackets are the kind of thing I get wrong so I think this bot is awesome. Red Fiona (talk) 21:55, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks

Sorry, I didn't know that my stupidness my edit would cause an error. Now I fixed it to be "including a sad emoticon" instead of the :(. Thanks :3 71.183.102.125 (talk) 12:58, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Arguably this is not an error but a false positive, but I think "sad emoticon" reads better anyway. Thanks for fixing it, and happy editing! Huon (talk) 15:40, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Section headings

I find BracketBot useful thank you, but its section headings less so. It just used "August 2013" as a heading on my talk page; I already know what month it is. Please can it use more meaningful headings, such as "BracketBot notification, 4 August 2013"? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:01, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

(where "here" is a link to Waste container). This appears to be incompatible with Wikipedia's ethos and way of working. not least as you operate a bot, whose talk page redirects to this one, and about which people may wish to comment. Please remove that wording. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 12:10, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Gundala/Thanks!

I would just like to thank you for notifying me to my edit-gone-wrong on the Gundala page. I wouldn't have found and fixed it without your help. 71.191.233.2 (talk) 23:00, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

You're welcome, thanks for fixing it! Huon (talk) 01:06, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Ok, thank you. Editing like that is too hard for me, but thanks the help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlitzPhoenix98 (talkcontribs) 18:31, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi 930913, I just noticed the work of Bracket Bot, and brought you something to snicker at. If you are familiar with it, feel free to snicker again. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 20:13, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

BracketBot - Wadood Jahan

Hey BracketBot I need your help, would you help me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wadood Jahan (talkcontribs) 04:54, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

BracketBot is an automated program that checks Wikipedia for mismatched brackets. It cannot hack Facebook accounts, and doing so would likely be illegal. Huon (talk) 08:23, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

Ramon Novarro missing brackets—error by BracketBot

@Huon: The edit that made the two right brackets disappear was this one: [1], which occurred hours before I made my first edit to the article. I don't expect an apology but I do expect you to listen to what I tell you. Your bot "blamed" the wrong person! Aren't you curious to find out why? --108.45.72.196 (talk) 19:18, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

PS: After a second look, I think I understand better. The bot totals the number of left brackets and compares it with the number of right brackets on the whole page; if the number is equal the bot thinks everything is OK (even if it isn't). In this case, my edit removed one unnecessary right bracket, the bot saw the inequality, and wrote a message on my talk page. Right? Thanks for your time. --108.45.72.196 (talk) 19:29, 10 August 2013 (UTC)

That's roughly correct. The bot is a little smarter than that - I believe it checks whether opening brackets are followed by closing brackets instead of the other way around - but not much. So if there are two "matching" errors on a page, fixing one will likely make the bot point out the other even though it's not at all your fault. Sorry for the confusion. Huon (talk) 01:36, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
Well, I don't think the bot is that smart. If it checked for an opening bracket followed by a closing bracket, it would have notified the IP using VisualEditor that he had deleted the two closing brackets. IMHO, it should be able to do that, but this time it didn't. It should work that way in every article where there's no "nesting" of expressions, like in math or maybe programming. But, that's just my 2 cents worth; I'll leave the details to experts, like you! Thanks for your time, Huon. I'm OK now. --108.45.72.196 (talk) 03:24, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
One final comment: The bot is helpful. A few months ago I did make an edit that broke the syntax and the bot told me right away and I fixed it right away. I thought that was neat and I still think so. I would guess the bot gets it right more than 90% of the time and imho that's more than acceptable. Thanks! --108.45.72.196 (talk) 23:40, 11 August 2013 (UTC)

BracketBot

Hi, may I ask what code is used to run BracketBot? Original Authority (talk) 19:17, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Image help

Hi, can you please help me to add a picture to the article below? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PFC_Cherno_More_Varna There are 2 users, vancod and rebelharteous, who constantly meddle with the information, more specifically with the founding year of the club. The picture, I would like to add is the one of the founders of the club in 1909. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.78.43.101 (talk) 11:13, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) For all I can tell that's a matter of interpretation: In 1945 some older clubs, one of which was founded in 1909, merged. Is the founding date the date of the merger, or the earliest founding date of the clubs that participated in the merger? I'd say the former is a legitimate interpretation. Anyway, instead of reverting back and forth you should discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Huon (talk) 03:45, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

1909 is the founding date of the oldest club in the merger. I would like to put a pictute of this club on the page, that's all. The discussion is still going on on the bulgarian talk page but there is no agreement between the 2 sides. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.78.43.101 (talk) 05:58, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

BracketBot notifications

Hi. Could your bot add talkpage notifications in the style of DPL bot? For example, the last BB notification on my talkpage was tagged onto an existing section (August 2013), whereas DPL Bot has the full date in the title (for example - "Disambiguation link notification for August 14"). This would make your bot notification easier to find, as I assume it would then be the message at the foot of a talkpage, instead of being buried elsewhere. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 17:55, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

To my knowledge that's deliberate; BracketBot messages are supposed to be treated like Twinkle warnings (say for vandalism) in hopes of vandal fighters seeing them and fixing the issue. Huon (talk) 00:58, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
