"Nonpartisan"

Yes, California elections are nonpartisan, that's why they say "NONPARTISAN." Why are you getting rid of them??? You cannot confuse them with anything else! They're not political parties, it's literally saying "Nonpartisan"! reppoptalk 01:38, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Acting President Must Be President Pro Tempore

Section 243(b) of the LA City Charter is clear: "The Council shall elect one of its members "President Pro Tempore" who shall act as presiding officer in the absence of the President of the Council and, in case of vacancy in the office of President of the Council, or in the case of unavailability due to sickness, absence from the state or disability of the President of the Council, shall exercise the powers and duties of the President of the Council under the provisions of this section." O'Farrell is Acting President because he is President Pro Tempore. Acting President is not a separate position. This is analogous to when a US Cabinet Secretary is vacant, the Deputy Secretary becomes Acting Secretary until the President (with Senate confirmation) appoints a new Secretary. The Acting Secretary is still the Deputy Secretary. Similarly, when the LA Council Presidency is vacant, the President Pro Tempore becomes Acting President until the City Council appoints a new President, but the Acting President is still the President Pro Tempore.
