Thumbnail bio

Hi, I'm helping out for The Signpost. Just a quick note that when submissions are published by The Signpost (if accepted by the editor-in-chief), we like to include a little info about the author. Since your user page is blank, it's hard to tell much about you, other than what you said in the article – that you consider yourself fluent in English and Chinese. I've moved this to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Next issue/Community view and tentatively changed the title and blurb. I may move it to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Next issue/Op-ed later, but there's another article that I might want to put there instead. Thanks so much Editor in Chief! Feel free to change the article however you like and put it in whichever section of the next issue of the Signpost as you see fit. I will check back on Wednesday but I'm sure it will be looking good in the upcoming issue of Signpost. Please check the submission now. Essentially, I just shortened it a bit, sentence by sentence. I was concerned however about the last paragraph - it was too aggressive. I know that wordplay is an essential part of Zhongwen, can you help me with something? I machine translated your username to "[I] don't like to think about pigs". Is this a valid alternative translation? – ☆ Bri (talk) 22:59, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bri: Haha, many apologies, any wordplay in the case of my username is most unintentional. I used the wrong preposition (fifth character) at the time of the creation of my username, which resulted in the funny translation. It should be "a pig that does not like to think", but my incorrect use of the preposition 得 instead of the correct preposition 的 (both pronounced the same way -- "de") results in the totally off-kilter translation "[I] don't like to think about [gaining] pigs". Given the number of homophones in the Chinese language, this is something that often happens when we use the Pinyin input system, which is the standard romanization scheme for Chinese characters. Many apologies. It should be "a pig that does not like to think" as I was born in the year of the pig. 不爱思考得猪 (talk) 03:08, 27 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
