TheCharlie was born in 1979 in San Diego, California. He currently lives in San Francisco, California, where he works as a linguist. He received his bachelor's degree at UC Santa Cruz where he studied theoretical linguistics. He also had courses on computer engineering, physics, mathematics, and literature. After completing his degree at UCSC, he went on to pursue a master's degree at San Francisco State University in English with an emphasis on linguistics.
Linguistics Research
TheCharlie has done some research on Teotitlan del Valle Zapotec, an indigenous language of Oaxaca, Mexico. More local research has focused on language variation of northern California English, including discourse markers, semantics, gender, and other aspects of sociolinguistics and discourse analysis.
Personal Statement
I feel that wikipedia is an excellent resource and should not be compromised. Because of the open nature of it though, sometimes inaccurate information can seep in and pollute the otherwise accurate articles. It is up to the users to maintain the integrity and quality of this site, and to recognize and act on any inapporpriate or inaccurate data found here.
That said, this is an encyclopedia, and like most encyclopedias, should not ever be used for any serious research or fact checking. It is, however, a very appropriate jumping-off point for research, especially in incredibly unfamiliar waters.
