Like many Islamic sympathetic personalities and scholars, Khamenei has strongly rejected ISIL.On 25 November 2014 in Meeting with participants of International Congress on Takfirism Khamenei remarked that: "The takfiri orientation is Islamic on the face of it. in practice, it is at the service of the great colonialist, arrogant and political orientations that are working against the Muslim world" and added: Takfiri orientation damaged the reputation of Islam in the world and it painted an ugly picture of it.They killed Muslims and innocent non-Muslims and the pictures were broadcast all over the world. These acts had been done in the name of Islam and had been proven by it. This was the way that they had chosen to introduce Islam".[1][2]
In message to the Muslim world on the occasion of Hajj ritual Khamenei stated: "I like Islamic scholars and sympathetic personalities in the Islamic Ummah, announce that any statement or action which fuels the fire of discord among Muslims, any insult to the sacred beliefs of each one of the Muslim denominations and any act of takfirism against Islamic denominations equals serving the camp of atheism and betraying Islam. All of these things are haram(forbidden by Islam)". he continued: "These disastrous conditions can abort the progress of Islamic Awakening, destroy the mental awareness which has been created in the Muslim world and consign to oblivion important and fundamental issues such as the liberation of Palestine and other Muslim nations from the transgressions of the U.S. and Zionism". [3]
He also claimed that, Military intervention against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant is just a funny joke when reportedly ISIL is beeing helped by U.S.."They want to keep this fitna alive, pit the two sides against one another and continue the domestic war between Muslims". khamenei said.[2][1]
In another report, Khamenei remarked that :"American authorities are trying to portray it as a sectarian war, but what is happening in Iraq is not a war between Shia and Sunni, it's between those who wanted Iraq in the U.S. camp and those who sought Iraq's independence". [4][5]. khamenei strongly opposed Intervention of America in Iraq because he believes that U.S. is going just to take control over this oil-exporting country again.[4]
In another report, Khamenei Underlined that :"We helped Hezbollah of Lebanon - which is a Shia group - in the same way that we helped Hamas and Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine and we will continue to do that. We did not become a prisoner of denominational limits. We did not differentiate between Shia,Sunni, Hanafi, Hanbali, Shafi'i and Zaidiyyah denominations. [1][6]
He also went further to say that: "Takfiri group has been formed with the support of certain regional states which is in conflict with all Muslim groups, but supporters of this stream should know that this fire will burn them too".[7][8]
