PlayBike - a term which can be applied in a variety of contexts, that can apply for instance to the recent explosion of the Track Day phenomena, as well as a broader term for the fun and excitement value of Motorcycling in general.

PlayBike emphasises and highlights the fun and 'play' aspect of Motorcycling, showing that primarily motorcycles are an exciting and vibrant form of recreation. For example, the name 'PlayBike' was conceived as a name for a business in The North East of Scotland, to reflect what motorcycles meant to the founder… Latterly, as leisure motorcycling and the 'Track Day' have increased in popularity, the term has evolved among road and track riders to take a meaning in its own right; it describes a particular type of machine and the manor in which it is used, combined with attitudes of the riders, and the enjoyment of the experience as a whole.

In recent years, the term playbike has been in use, mainly in North America, to describe smaller off-road type motorcycles (usually sub 250cc). The bikes are primarily for recreational use, but they are also raced in various forms in the USA. The term is used in a similar context to that of PlayBike, evoking the idea of fun and recreation, though the term's use is more strictly confined to relating specifically to the machine rather than encompassing any wider meaning described earlier.

PlayBike (aka PlayBike Motorcycles) is a leisure oriented Motorcycle Business in Morayshire, Scotland, specialising in the promotion of Motorcycles (especially Sports Motorcycles) and accessories, for road and track use. PlayBike was founded in 1997 by experienced motorcyclist Paul Hudson, as a sales outlet for New and Used motorcycles. It has subsequently developed a reputation as a reliable source for advice and information on many aspects of road and track riding, and proves a useful resource for novice motorcyclists in guiding their motorcycling aspirations.

Playbike is also the name of an Italian Motorcycle racing team, (www.playbike.net), who race in a number of Italian Domestic Road Racing Championships. Through racing these high performance Bikes they are ably reinforcing the PlayBike image of Motorcycling not just as an exciting pastime, but also as an exciting and spectacular sport (see MotoGP and Superbike Racing).
