Paul Hirst currently lives in Hilo on the Island of Hawaii. He's lived there since March 2000, when he took a job at the Joint Astronomy Centre. He new works at the Gemini Observatory.

Before that he lived in the UK.

As far as wikipedia is concerned, he has expertise in things related to astronomy, scuba diving, hawaii, and pretty much anything concerning science and technology.
