The 2015–16 FIA Formula E season will be the second season of the FIA Formula E championship. The season will see the introduction of eight manufacturers, who will be allowed to change certain parts of the car[1]. The season is set to start later than the previous season, with the first round in Beijing on the 17 October[2].

Teams and Drivers

On 23rd February 2015, 8 manufacturers consisting of six current teams and two new manufacturers[1], along with the 10 teams three days later. It was also announced that all teams will have the same Spark chassis again[3][4].

Team Changes

  • On the 23rd February 2015, the FIA announced that eight manufactors, of which six current teams (ABT, Andretti, Mahindra, NEXTEV TCR, Venturi and Virgin (later provided by Citroën)) and two new manufacturers (Renault and Motomacia) would produce components for ten teams in the second season.[1][3]
  • Three days later, it was announced that ten teams would compete in the second season[3]

Driver Changes

Rule Changes

  • Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E, has stated that rules will be loosened. Teams will have the opportunity to pursue their own in-house innovations which initially is limited to the powertrain. Specifically the e-motor, the inverter, the gearbox and the cooling system. All other parts on the cars will remain as they are, with the aim being to prevent costly aerodynamic developments.[4]

Calendar

In September 2014, it was announced that the calendar would be expanded to 12 cities,[4] and later added that more than 180 cities have shown interest in hosting a race[27]. However, this was later reduced to ten, with two new circuits added to the calendar[28].

Calendar Changes

  • On the 10th July 2015, the World Motor Sport Council released the calendar for the 2015–16 season. This included the eight previous circuits from the first season as well as the additional circuit of Paris, with Monaco and Miami missing from the list. There was also one undecided race on this calendar set for March 19th, as well as unknown dates for the double-header London ePrix and confirmation needed for both the Punta del Este and Buenos Aires ePrixs[28].
