  • Though gender discrimination is proscribed; in social practice, often, the Alumna's Last name is changed. Recognising this practice variance, RKCians to come up with a schema to list dual Last Names, if preferred. The Last name at School, serves as a recognizable reference; the post school accomplishments are best recognized with new Last Name. RKCians' ideas should prevail; a search for usage in other Co-Ed or Girls school Alumni Roster is pending ( 'See also' below ). Some difficulties in tracking Alumni with dual Last Name will be the norm, but it can be accomplished with foresight.

  • A married name is the family name adopted by a person upon marriage In many cultures it is common practice for a person to assume the family name of his or her spouse; this new name typically replaces the maiden name.

The term "maiden name" is rarely applied to the change of family names by men, or by either sex other than in connection with marriage. Nevertheless, the French and English-adopted term "née" (pronounced /ˈneɪ/ "nay" in English, [ˈne] in French), meaning "born," can be applied to a woman's family-name at birth that has been replaced for any reason. The French masculine inflection corresponding to née is "né"; while less readily recognized by non-French-speakers, it is likewise applied to family names changed for any reason.[1] (The diacritics are sometimes omitted.)

The term "birth name" is sometimes used specifically as a gender-neutral (or male only) substitute for "maiden name", but it is also applied to mean the family name of the mother of a child adopted at birth, and is thus likely to be used with more flexibility than the loan-words née and né, accepting it even when the name being referred to was acquired by adoption (at or long after birth), or made in connection with a change of nationality, or changed in any of the variety of other, rarer circumstances. Another distinction is that while "birth name" can refer to either a family name, a full name, or presumably a given name considered in isolation, née or né is considered correct only when immediately preceded by the new family name and immediately followed by the old: e.g. "Margaret Hilda Thatcher née Roberts". The maiden name can also be expressed parenthetically, e.g. "Margaret Hilda (Roberts) Thatcher"[citation needed].

  • Wikipedia becomes more impressive all the time. Once it was a free alternative to commercial encyclopedias - now it surpasses them in its scope, depth, and currency. For any who have doubts about how truly comprehensive the collection has become, try editing the most obscure articles requested in WP:AR1 - as often as not you will find an entry under a different name that merely needs a redirect. In politics and current events, Wikipedia editors often succeed, where for decades American journalists have usually failed, to pull together all of the information available into a consistent, balanced, and understandable form that allows people to make informed decisions.
  • Obscure topics are often interesting; Wikipedia can work like a notepad for storing interesting information, with possibility of future expansion in the hands of capable editors or at least there's always the History.
  • The site is a social experiment in mass collaboration. The site creates an experimental record of the strengths and weaknesses of interactive writing; policies can be tested and their impact determined. Wikipedia is not without problems - too many people are willing to revert edits even though they state that they have a problem with only a portion of the text. The deletion of articles or the removal of material has taken on political overtones, and in some cases it has been found that historical versions of an article from a year or more in the past are preferable to that currently provided. Even so, the material is there in some form, and one hopes further developments will reverse such trends.
  • Editing the site is an opportunity to learn the tools and mores of a new kind of Internet communications protocol. Although Wikis look like other web sites, their public nature makes them truly a new type of forum, as fundamental as e-mail, Web, Usenet, and chat formats. Expecting great potential for Wikis in classroom exercises, the writing of large scientific articles with many authors, interactive fiction writing, and many other applications.
