Mikolaj Sobocinski (Nick Saturday)

I've been teaching English at higher education since 2001: Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Wyższa Szkoła Języków Obcych w Świeciu (School of Foreign Languages), Nauczycielskie Kolegium Języków Obcych w Olsztynie (Teacher Training College), Kazimierz Wielki University w Bydgoszczy, and American College of the Middle East in Kuwait. My conference presentations and publications range from culture, linguistics, semiotics, pragmatics, and teacher training. In the last years, I prepared a few academic writing courses for BA, MA, and PhD students. At Kazimierz Wielki University I conducted lectures for overseas students on Polish history, culture, and geography. Since 2010, together with my colleagues from the English Department, we started introducing games and gamification to our lessons and teaching approach. From 2012 till 2015, I took part in establishing and running Gamedec - Game Studies & Design, where I could test the impact of project work, team work, and games in education. Gamification came as a bonus since I apply game mechanics in my courses since 2010.In my free time I try to take pictures, black & white if I can, or I watch Japanese anime and Studio Ghibli masterpieces.

In the last few years I tried applying educational platforms to higher education mingling it with external resources like wikipedia.

If there is any spare time I devote it to travelling.

I have been applying Wikipedia in my teaching for years, took part in a few discussions, but I think it's high time to become a more active reviewer and author of new entries.
