In The Ancient Giants Who Ruled America, Richard J. Dewhurst discusses supposedly missing skeletons of giant humans that were reportedly found throughout North America, claiming the Smithsonian Institution is responsible for a cover-up and is hiding these discoveries as well as concealing records of them from the public. His evidence comes from word of mouth, newspaper articles, and other sources. Dewhurst argues for a new history of North America.

Dewhurst is an Emmy Award–winning co-writer of the HBO documentary film Dear America: Letters Home from Vietnam (2014). The publisher's website says he was a graduate of NYU with degrees in journalism, film, and television. Inner Traditions – Bear & Company

The book is described by Inner Traditions – Bear & Company as “a study of the substantial evidence for a former race of giants in North America and its 150-year suppression by the Smithsonian Institution.”[1] It was reviewed by archaeologist Benjamin M. Auerbach, who criticizes the author's selection of evidence, which consists mainly of newspaper articles and non-scientific sources that are not peer-reviewed[2] Furthermore, Auerbach critiques the author's lack of relevant background.
