Karen Dougherty Buchholz is a business leader and community advocate.Currently Karen Dougherty Buchholz is the Senior Vice President of Administration for Comcast Corporation. [1]

Having started her career as a Special Assistant to then United States Senator John Heinz in Washington, D.C, Buchholz continued her career being a leader in the Philadelphia area since 1988. Karen served as Special Assistant to State Treasurer Barbara Hafer in 1990.

In 1991, Karen was in charge of the development of the Pyramid Club at the top of the Mellon Bank Center. From 1993 to 1997 Karen served as Sales Executive for Comcast-Spectacor. During this time she was responsible for the development of the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.

In 1997 Karen was asked by then-Mayor Edward G. Rendell to be the President of Philadelphia 2000. She accepted and her organization brought the 2000 Republican National Convention to Philadelphia and served as the City’s official Host Committee. It is important to note that this was the first time in over 50 years that a political convention was held in Philadelphia. The Convention's success attracted 50,000 tourists and the immediate economic benefits exceeded $300 million. Due to the reputation of this convention, Karen earned positive media domestically and internationally. [2]

From 2000 to 2003 Karen developed Comcast's (Fortune 50 company) first Corporate Communications department. As Senior Vice President of Administration, Karen leads a variety of functions including: corporate real estate, facilities, aviation, diversity, political affairs, corporate services, travel and security. This includes the development of the tallest building in Philadelphia, Comcast’s new Innovation and Technology Center. [3] [4]

Karen has received numerous awards, including: 2014 United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey Women’s Initiative Award; NAMIC-Philadelphia 2012 Paragon Award, 2012 Multichannel News Wonder Women Award, 2011 WICT Seasoned Professional Service Award, 2009 Pennsylvania’s Best 50 Women in Business Award, 2008 American Heart Association "Go Red for Women" Woman of Heart Award, 2000 Women of Distinction by the Philadelphia Business Journal, Headliner Award by the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association, Comcast Newsmaker of the Year Award, Girl Scouts of America Take the Lead Award, Boy Scouts of America Cradle of Liberty Council’s 2000 Summit Award, Honorary Member of the National Association of Women Business Owners and the PENJERDEL Council Citizen of the Year.
