Skip Shea (born February 26th 1960) is a film producer.

Skip Shea is an Emmy Nominated filmmaker, writer, artist and actor from Uxbridge, Massachusetts. He was nominated as a producer on season 2 for "Beacon Hill the Series." He initially adapted the book and wrote season 1 which was also nominated. He first feature length move "Trinity" was picked up by Bay View Entertainment for distribution and can be found on Amazon Prime in the USA and UK as well as in DVD format. His second feature "Seeds" won the Rondo Hatton Award for Best Indie Feature in 2020. The Rondo Awards have been labeled as the Oscars for Horror.

Early life and education

‘’Skip Shea’’ was born at Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts on February 26, 1960.

He grew up Uxbridge, Massachusetts

He attended the local parochial Catholic elementary school K-4. While there he experienced childhood trauma.

He attended grades 5-12 in the Uxbridge School District System.

He attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts. He also attended Worcester State University. Recently he is attending NYU to study Philanthropy management.

He became an alcoholic in his early adult life and didn’t begin recovery until 1998. This was just a little more than a year before his daughter Shawna died.

This led him into his work with the Shawna Foundation.

Career

Skip started this career later in life with his one man show "Catholic (Survivng Abuse and Other Dead End Roads)" which had it's premier in New York in 2005. It chronicles his life as a survivor of clergy sexual abuse, a recovering alcoholic and parent who lost a child. And it is mostly a comedy.

He is also the director of the The Shawna E Shea Memorial Foundation, Inc. a 501(c)(3) nonprofit named after his daughter who passed away in 1999. The Foundation runs two film festivals, The Shawna Shea Film Festival and the Mass Indie Film Festival. They offer local scholarships to graduating seniors at Uxbridge High School as well as a Women in Film Fellowship which gives support to first time female filmmakers. He is working on expanding the programs in 2022. Skip is an outspoken survivor of clergy sexual abuse and from the depths of that childhood trauma, he wrote, produced and performed a one-man theatrical memoir called “Catholic (Surviving Abuse & Other Dead End Roads)” which takes audiences to places they may not want to go. It debuted at the Bowery Poetry Club in 2005 in New York City. Where Skip left that event with a publishing deal for a book of his poetry performed in the show that was released the following year.

In 1999, Skip’s daughter Shawna Shea, twin sister of Erin Shea, tragically lost her life in a car accident at 16. He transformed this ultimate loss as best he knew how: through art and film. In 2012, Skip memorialized his daughter’s independent spirit by establishing the annual Shawna Shea Film Festival, a growing gathering attracting the best independent films from across the U.S. and the world. All of the proceeds go directly to the Shawna E. Shea Memorial Foundation, Inc.

In 2011, Skip was recognized for his poetry when legendary jazz trumpeter Jon Faddis performed his “Songs of Mourning” at the September 11 Tenth Anniversary Commemorative Concert at Symphony Space in New York City. Skip originally wrote the poem for the first anniversary of this American tragedy that afterwards was included in the academic textbook “Lyrics of Lament: From Tragedy to Transformation.”

Skip dove head-first into the horror genre and short film making. In 2013, his horror short AVE MARIA won the Audience Award at the Interiora Horror Festival in Rome, Italy; and was named the Most Wonderful and Weird short at the Mascara and Popcorn Film Festival in Montreal.
