The Yangon Kandawgyi Garden (Burmese: ရန္ကုန္ကန္ေတာ္ႀကီး ဥယာဥ္, is a major park in Yangon, Myanmar. The park consists of over 150 acres of water area and 110 acres of land area, which makes it a total of 260 acres.[1] Kandawgyi meaning "the great lake" in Myanmar is a well-known place in Yangon.[2]


Location

It is situated on Natmauk Road and Kandawgyi Kanpat Road in Bahan Township. It is located east of the Shwedagon Pagoda.[3]

Visitor

The garden receives many visitors every year. People go to the garden to do physical exercise in the morning and to enjoy the beautiful scenes of the lake. In daytime, it is crowded with tourists who visit Yangon and students on excursion. On holidays, families and groups of young people go there for picnic. Evening is the best time for taking beautiful landscape photos.


Attractions

There are many varieties of flowers, green plantation of vegetables, natural designed waterfalls, and neat and tidy built huts for the visitors, which will make their stay in the garden peaceful and refreshing. The beautiful scene of the nature lake water and large green shady trees. There are also a garden, the children play-ground, Mini Zoo, the souvenir shops and many restaurants. The playgrounds and picnic areas are attracted to children and teenagers. The beauty of Karaweik Hall also shows a unique work of art to be explored in the heart of Kandawgyi Lake. We can go to the Fish Aquarium in which water-dwelling plants and animals are kept. There is also the Utopia Tower which was one of the brightest building at night. Utopia Tower is looked like an ancient wall stoned building but it is made from brick and modern construction material. There is a statue of Bogyoke(General) Aung San on the northern shore of Kandawgyi Lake in Yangon. We can go visit Ice Wonderland which is located in Kandawgyi Garden.


Entrance Fees

The entrances fees is 300 kyats (approximately 40cents). Additional fees have to be paid for camera and video recorder, 500 kyats(approximately 50cents) and 1000 kyats(approximately 1 dollar) respectively.[4]
