Eukaryotic initiation factor 4G, more commonly known as eIF4G, is an initiation factor involved in the assembly of the 46S pre-initiation complex in eukaryotic cells, needed for protein synthesis. This particular initiation factor not only binds to the PABPI (polyadenylate binding protein I), which is in turn bound to the messenger RNA's poly(A) tail, but also Eukaryotic initiation factor 3 (eIF3), which is bound to the incoming smaller 40S subunit of the ribosome.
