In the interest of transparency, I am posting this introduction to myself and my position as a paid Wikipedian-in-Residence at the Cochrane Collaboration. Individuals who edit Wikipedia as part of their paid work are strongly encouraged to make a conflict of interest statement on their user pages disclosing their affiliation. I understand that there will occasionally be questions about what I am doing or my intentions, and I would like to address them head on. This statement is intended to answer questions and allay concerns from the Wikimedia community.

Who are you?

My name is Sydney Poore. I've been an active Wikipedia editor since 2005. I'm an administrator on Wikipedia-en, and have oversight and checkuser tools. During 2011-13 I held a seat on the Wikimedia Foundation Ombudsman Commission. I read and answer emails for the Wikimedia Foundation and sometimes take action on site based on information in them. I'm an initial member of the Framework for the Creation and Initial Operation of the FDC.

Why do you edit with your FloNight username?

I have not created a new account for my Cochrane edits, and I do not specify which edits were done in my position as WiR. I do this because I recognize that all of my edits are subject to scrutiny by the community, and dividing them between two accounts would make following them more difficult not less.

What are you not doing?

I will not be writing articles about Cochrane Collaboration, Cochrane staff, or any other subjects related to Cochrane Collaboration as an agency and its image. Editing medical articles to include Cochrane Summaries as a high quality review reference is a much better way to fulfill Cochrane's mission to disseminate evidenced based health information. Generally, though, I'm not writing articles at all; it is more efficient to spend my time enabling the broader Wikimedia community to work on topics of relevance to Cochrane by providing resources, rather than just spending all my time as one person editing individual articles.

If you disagree with any of my contributions feel free to contest them just like you would any other Wikimedian. My position with Cochrane Collaboration gives me no extra authority on Wikimedia projects. I am an editor like everyone else, hopefully being judged by the merit of my edits.
