Guidelines for website accessibility are often unclear. The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and other federal agencies who enforce these laws are making it clear that adhering to the globally recognized Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is a nonnegotiable compliance requirement. Unfortunately, identifying and remediating WCAG compliance issues can be a daunting task for organizations that do not have a dedicated accessibility team. Many of the guidelines are complex and difficult to interpret, even for skilled web developers. Because of this, the DOJ and accessibility advocacy groups strongly recommend securing an independent third party to assist with accessibility compliance initiatives.
